it will also keep MM, FOS and Revival fresh in the mind as tickets go on sale for 2021 events.
7/11 do you think they’ll be worried about selling extra tickets?
Everyone I know has let their 2020 tickets roll over. Combine that with a Government mandated restricted attendance and Goodwood may not need to sell many or even any at all. Just a thought.

Everyone has a choice, Goodwood have given multiple options from rolling over tickets / refunds / exchanging ticket value for GSA membership, giving GSA membership to those that continue with the GRRC, I really can't see what else they could have done, as others have said the money made from the 3 flagship Motorsport events gets put back into making the estate and future events continue and improve, I'm in no way a member of 'high society' but I do get tremendous enjoyment out of going to Goodwood and I've been lucky enough to be involved with displaying and demonstrating cars there, I want the events to continue so that's why I've joined the GSA.
If you don't donate your membership fee to the GSA

You get ejected from the GRRC

We didn't get clarity on that one.
It is thought that if you ask for a refund of this year's membership, then you are ejected from the club.... which when you think of it, is probably what you expect.
It may be possible to not accept the 'offer' of the GSA, and ask for a discount on next year's membership. This hasn't really been explored very well.

I suspect most members don't look at it as a purely business arrangement, so will want to 'fund' the Estate via the GSA, as this helps the club/events that they enjoy.

For what it is worth, I am donating my membership fees this year (to 'join' the GSA).
Join is interesting as you don't really get anything for that (yeah, I know a plaque and a lapel badge) - however, I generally like the events, and want the these to continue.

It will be interesting to see what happens next year - it is more politics than a Goodwood question - I assume next years events need to be in planning now... There is no certainty they will be allowed to take place.

It is a separate argument as to it being good business practice to take a £6M div from a company that made £5M leaving basically nothing in reserve. I am fully aware it goes in to the remainder of the group, but how the estate is funded isn't really anything to do with the business that sells 'memberships' and runs the events (in terms of then having to resort to begging).

When I asked so what are the benefits of membership
I was just told you won’t be invited to rejoin next year

To cut a long story short, if you scratch their back they will scratch yours. Their ‘scratch’ is well worth having I.M.E.

The Estate costs will still need to be met (it is a business after all) irrespective if there is any contribution from us motoring proles or not, Tying The two together is tenuous at best.

I can understand the viewpoint of others wishing to support a venue where they have had so much enjoyment In the past. And equally wish enough plates can be spun over a 3 year period via sponsorship or land sales that allow everything to continue as previous years. Having “paid” to enjoy a few FOS myself in the past.

Putting aside the impact of COVID-19 on all our incomes, I would be be able to find several causes far more worthy of my last few quid than this, apart from Spurs asking for 100 million from the taxpayer and Arsenal losing over 55 staff while they are happy to pay Ozil 18 million a year, I’m struggling to find a worse example of a hard luck story than this, I may possibly reconsider when his garage is empty of show ponies and “investments” but for now I think I will pass on the offer to make a contribution.

Everyone needs to do what they feel is right, even if the events go ahead next year with some sort of 'normality' the estate will have effectively not had any of its major business income for an entire year and they will be starting on the back foot (due to the costs involved for the Members Meeting set-up), so I can completely understand why they have done what they have to ensure there are future events.

Look what British Airways / F1 / Virgin / and everyone else are having to do to keep services going, Goodwood are no different

Speedweek will help to retain sponsors and fulfil commitments, no one should be there that isn't ment to be there to make the event work, I'm looking forward to different areas that would normally be for spectators getting used for other purposes and the mixed nature of what we will see over the weekend

I always thought it was very generous of Goodwood to maintain free entry to the breakfast meeting events held on a Sunday especially when it became so popular (too popular in my opinion)

Perhaps when Covid has passed, the organiser could look at charging a small entrance / Parking charge?

I would suggest free to GRRC members (and maybe fellowship) and a fiver for everyone else.

£5.00 for general public
Don't forget some of us travel a fair few miles to put our cars on display and that costs us fuel!
So if your car is "selected" for display I don't think you should pay grumpy

I buy food at Goodwood from the burger van and have also enjoyed breakfasts in the cafes

It's your choice to incur the cost of a visit or to any function or venue so a bit of a cheek to expect re-imbursement. Your hobby you pay for it.
If your car gets 'selected' then bully for you, just enjoy the attention.
GBC way way overdue for charging which is unusual for the Goodwood Estate who never miss a trick when it comes to extracting money
from the public & supporters.
£5 per car or £5 per person on foot perfectly acceptable & Covid-19 or not it would help control numbers as it attracts too many not interested in cars but just looking for a free outing - at it's worst during the holidays.

I imagine they rely on the free events to drive interest in those attending to attend FOS or Revival.

Where did I say anything about re-embersmet?
Currently Goodwood puts on themed events, if owners of those themed cars (selected by Goodwood) did not turn up for a breakfast meeting then the rest of the public would not have anything to look at would they!

"If your car gets selected then bully for you"
Think that comment says more about you than me fella.
Jog on.

I have already suggested that they should charge £1 entry per person and £5 if you are displaying your car. All money will go to a different charity for each breakfast club meeting. Representatives of the chosen charity for each meeting could stand at the gates with buckets. I’m sure people would pay.
