I think it will happen just a case of the numbers that’s what the discussions will be with local authorities

How will this work if it’s sold out though?
I wonder if they could split over two weekends?

I can't see how this could happen... if our information is correct, there are 42k tickets out there for each day. There would need to be a ballot or similar in order to determine who could go.
Purchasers in 2020 should really have priority as they supported GW by letting them hold on to the cash last year.
Even then, still probably way too many... they would have to do the selection based on purchaser rather than ticket otherwise you would get the situation where some in a group have access, and some don't.
Surely at this point with so many tickets sold, it has to be all or nothing.

I wouldn't want to be in GW's shoes at the moment - but again, I think they have gone too early with a bad bet.

That can’t happen because of teams / manufacturers other commitments.

Goodwood apparently lost £1mil from the members meet build last year.
But the event never happened, and it was at the circuit, so they couldn’t leave it set up.

I wonder how the build 'works'.
I can see that GW could build the stands (seats), bales etc., but what happens with the manufacturer's displays/stands?
Will say Ford really be building their extremely expensive stand at present. Are they contractually forced to to do this even if THEY believe the event won't happen?
Also, I assume the advertisers and other vendors all expect a certain footfall - if the attendees are suddenly cut significantly, surely that affects the viability.

It just doesn't look that easy to cut attendees.

Things cost even if they’re not used for a few weeks.

I would suggest personally that if they're going ahead with the build and immediately came out with a notice about pilot events that they know something we don't. The Government don't keep large businesses or events in the dark, and discussions will almost certainly have taken place ahead of Mondays announcement. There's huge financial pressure on the govt, and the situation IMO is purely about PR managing the exit from restrictions. The UK is maintaining restrictions longer than many countries with far higher numbers of deaths. But lets not get into that as it's not completely relevant to this thread.

During parliament discussions yesterday about extending the lockdown to 19th they specifically mentioned Goodwood and other events so it is well on their radar.

This is the first year I've got tickets, really hoping the turnout from manufacturers is there. No point in bringing in spectators if the event is empty...

I wonder if they could put it back a couple of weeks, until the weekend after the British GP, so that restrictions should be over and some F1 teams coukld attend hopefully

I doubt there will be any movement of the date.

The stands, infrastructure, catering, manufacturers, drivers, cars, and so on will be scheduled and booked specifically for the set dates, and will no doubt be off somewhere else as soon as Goodwood finishes. Usually none of that sort of stuff is hanging around with time to spare between events.

In normal times that would be the case, however, that depends.
If the stands, toilets are booked up already for later events in the hope of them getting back to normal trading then they won't be available.
Are other major events actually planning to try and start up immediately?
I happen to know that a concert Mrs NIFAN was going to in July 2021 has been put back 1 year.

I think most events either delayed to following year or pushed dates back - only Goodwood and Silverstone seem to have gone gun hoh. Personally I’m convinced Goodwood must have a plan otherwise the longer they leave it the worse it is - they also continue to sell camping tickets etc

The ‘Goodwood’ that was mentioned was the horses ( Glorious Goodwood).

Glorious Goodwood starts on 27th July, 8 days after restrictions are lifted, so hopefully not a cause for discussion.

Another logistical consideration for 'just moving FoS back a few weeks'. So many moving parts, I'd be amazed if it's anything other than all or nothing on the original dates.

If they do have a backup date it would be pretty easy to tell from local hotel availability.
