Discussion

There's no real comparison: everything for GFoS has to be built up from scratch, and dismantled afterwards, whereas at the racecourse the infrastructure is, for the most part, permanent.
Yep. Was speaking to an events manager chap who has done FOS for a few years and he was saying that the building and assembly required for FOS is incredible. It takes 1-2 months to build all the manufacturer stands and other infrastructure, and it all has to be fully completed a minimum of 1 week before the start.Maximus_Meridius101 said:

Glorious Goodwood starts on 27th July, 8 days after restrictions are lifted, so hopefully not a cause for discussion.
It takes more than 8 days to get it set up, hence the discussion.Just for clarity, extracts from Tuesday's Hansard...

A week? You would be amazed how much is left to do on some stands on the Wednesday afternoon! Great to walk around the site on Wednesday and get to see some of the new cars up close - it is a hive of activity with transporters lining the hillclimb with last minute deliveries
We’re really hoping it is going ahead this year - Keep those fingers crossed everyone!
Not goodwood, but british superbikes are not being allowed any latitude on the 4,000 crowd limits.
This from the MSV site about the Oulton Park meeting on June 25.............
Whilst we hoped that spectator limits would be lifted on 21 June if Step 4 proceeded, we have in the meantime been lobbying government, alongside horse racing and golf, to increase our Step 3 capacity so that we have parity with seated venues. Stadiums are currently permitted up to 10,000 spectators despite far more use of public transport, people arriving and leaving at broadly the same time and higher densities in stairwells and entrances. Motor racing circuits by contrast have hundreds of acres of outdoors space allowing spectators to be distributed over large areas with ample room for social distancing. There is no justification for this differentiation in approach.
Unfortunately, there has been no change to the guidance (indeed, we have yet to receive any formal response from the government), so we must enforce the existing Step 3 limits. The great majority of admission tickets will remain valid, including all orders carried over from 2020, however some Sunday ticket purchasers (those that have booked more recently) will be contacted later this week and offered the chance to swap their ticket to Saturday or to receive a full refund.

I wouldn't pin much hope around that. A single Tory MP claiming that delaying or cancelling a couple of upper class events will be "cataclysmic"! Looks like he's just showboating to his voters and I doubt he's expecting his statement to have any significant impact.https://hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2021-06-16

With all due respect, I wouldn’t call the FOS “upper class”. These days it’s pretty mass market.
I arrived in the car park at 0645 about 6 years ago and parked next to Nova with four young lads in it. They were already necking cans of Skol. So I reckon although it still has the more higher echelon places onsite, it does cater to all financial demographics now.

Confirmed with spectators? Or possibly as a live streamed event?
This is the only important question. They have always been free to run the event, but it’s the spectator numbers that are in question. Maybe they feel they can run it as a live streamed event (they usually do this anyway) and with just a few thousand spectators.
