Obviously you didn’t notice the weather on Saturday, or stuck around long enough to see the storm last night then ( from about 17:00 onwards). Weather forecasting is not an exact science, but I prepared according to my long range, and I’m so very glad I did, as the brolly came in mighty handy.

Heard a few moans about the weather on Saturday and I feel like I was at a different event. It was drizzly, and I occasionally put my pac-a-mac on, but I never really felt like I'd got all that wet.

Anyway, it was my first time there (maybe the excitement stopped me noticing the weather) and I spent so much time looking around the static displays that I barely saw anything actually going up the hill! I'll definitely be back, and for a couple of days in future.

Noticed a young lad taking photos of the traffic on the A285 on the way in and out, anyone know where I'm likely to find photos? Couldn't tell whether he was working for someone or just out enjoying the cars, I know he got a couple of pictures of mine and I wouldn't mind getting a copy smile

The lads with the camping chairs were just taking photos for their own bank. A couple of them had signs with “revs please” written on them too laugh

I went past the 'Revs Please' one and as I had clear road in front of me shoved my foot down which seemed to go down well looking in the rear view mirror biggrin

I think it probably would - they had a contemporary hillclimb car in 2003 when they had a class to celebrate an anniversary. Graeme Wight Jr was very quick (42.9) but the car was completely undergeared. The current cars are meaningfully more rapid (160+ over the finish line at Gurston!) that I''m sure an appropriately set up car with the right driver would be properly scorching. The concern might be around the actual terminal velocity that could be achieved before molecomb and at the top of the hill.
Quite possible. GW Jr's Gould had around 450bhp from its V6 all those year's ago, the modern V8s have around 700bhp. I can image 160mph + over the finish line at Goodwood, they do that at Shelsley.
Oh yes, compare the GR51 from 2003 with the latest GR59, I’d wager that any of the top 5 run off regulars in the BHC would be in with a shout of the Hiedfeld time personally, especially Sean Gould on current form.

GR51

GR59
Sean’s had a below par season so far, and wouldn’t enjoy the changeable conditions judging by what’s unfolded this season.

Alex (although he was there) in the DJ or Wallace in the aforementioned GR59 would be on the money for the record IMO. Wallace’s car is very much a crowd pleaser too with the noise it makes.

Is it just me that laughed after passing the sign for Cocking or is anyone else just as juvenile? smile

No. Ironically, I watched the inbeteweeners movie on Friday night, on the telly in my hotel room. The way my weekend panned out would have fitted that script perfectly, only it actually happened for me. It is just what tends to happen to me especially whenever Goodwood is involved. laugh. If I hear “Jesus you couldn’t have scripted that” again, I’ll laugh harder. If you can’t handle it / don’t like it, that’s not my problem:

My son and I attended on Saturday. Arrived just before 0730 and parked at the first car park we arrived at which was S3. Cursory check of our COVID paperwork and strolled straight in.
I haven’t been for about 16 years so we didn’t really have a plan other than try to cover every square inch. A few of my thoughts and a couple of questions.

Happy not to have a grandstand pass (they were sold out) as it was nice to keep roaming. We had a couple of very small collapsible chairs like mini shooting sticks which were great for taking the weight of the legs occasionally

There was a registration for passengers in the super car paddock. I’m assuming this is just legal paperwork for those that have pre agreed Hill climb passenger rides! Saw Shmee150 in that queue.

The Jaguar passenger rides looked amazing. These were fully booked. Were these something that could have been pre booked or should I have registered upon arrival?

The rally stage was a bit disappointing, but I did arrive there at 2pm on Saturday when the heavens opened so probably not a fair assessment as I’ve read others saying how good it was

I loved the openness of the day, we were welcome to stroll wherever we wished. I was wondering with basic admission tickets whether we would be barred from many areas but this was not the case.

I wouldn’t bother with programmes again. Its excellent but GFOS is a live exciting event so only useful as a souvenir really. If you like that sort of thing.

Not sure why anyone would pay for performance parking. Do you get an easier route in and out though? I was really uncomfortable driving out of car park S after the deluge at 3pm. Fairly steep grassy slope that was only going to get muddier.

The hindhead tunnel is a cracker. I’m really hoping that my average speed was substantially lower than the spirited bits

All in all had a brilliant time and I’m sure I will book again next year hence the questions. Furthest I’ve been in the Ferrari since purchase and it was a memorable day out 😀

I was at the very front of S (arrived at 6.30), about 3 minutes walk from the performance parking, and had a completely flat exit on grass which ran parallel to the performance entrance/exit (which was a proper road) before joining up with them. The entrance for the public into the part of S I was in was pretty bumpy (through a small wood) which they got to avoid completely.

At 6.45am they were able to essentially drive straight in with a quick ticket check, so did have access to the site a little earlier than us commoners and I imagine a bit later in the morning that would have made arriving a bit quicker than it was for the general public.

Because you get nice smooth access in and out of the car park with no mud or ruts, and there are no queues to get in or out if you time it right.

The super car rides are usually for various competition winners, and potential customers, arranged with dealers / the company in advance. The sign up bit is basically an indemnity form

They were pre booked, they booked out weeks ago.

The performance parking gets you practically right into the arena, so you are closer to the action.

I was in PP west and as others have said it is a road (gravel) almost all the way in and then those metal panels on the ground so only the last 50 yards or so was grass where actually parked. Right by the entrance and straight in so I'd do it again. Also useful as able to pop back to the car and drop some bits off from the stalls before hopping on the tractor to the rally stage which was just next to PP.

Before this year, we just operated a queue system, but clearly that wouldn’t have been right for these times, so most slots were pre-bookable before the event via the Goodwood and Jaguar websites. We left the later afternoon slots free for booking on the day (either by NFC or via the team themselves), but these tend to get booked very quickly as well.

It’s great fun - the drivers are very good at shredding rear tyres! Only one car / bale contact this year which was good going with the damp conditions we had a few times. The Pirelli team were kept pretty busy at the back of house area biggrin

Had not been to FOS in the last 6 years. Went Saturday, the weather was rubbish and found it overall a little too busy. Wish I knew the advantages of performance parking, as I thought it was just another field to park in.. Catering choices at Goodwood are not great, especially if vegetarian and looking for breakfast. I do find that with most car events..

IMHO it has turned into a big commercial money making machine and much preferred it when it was a smaller event for enthusiasts as have some great memories.

I would return, but probably on Thursday or Friday when it is allot quieter.. Anyone else fill out a Goodwood survey? more interested in electric car choices than feedback for the event itself...

I went Saturday and loved it, but I do agree about the survey. I clicked on 'other' where able to and in the comments made my feelings known about my view on electric vehicles (no interest to me personally). PP was good, glad I tried it for the first time. I'll be back next year, and won't try and do everything in one day as my legs are still hurting today!

Now it makes more sense. The 360 has little ground clearance. I got through the small bumpy woody bit both ways but it wasn’t fun.

Saw your lovely Alpina! Good point about being able to pop back to the car during the day and proximity to the tractor which I didn’t even notice until I was heading back to the car at the end of the day.

For me the weather has quite an impact on FOS, given it is an outside event and cars are not able to really flex their muscles up the hill. Also practical stuff like having lots of areas under cover just in case of bad weather where you can enjoy something to eat and drink, that needs major improvement. I was also worried about getting my car out of the carpark as the rain was constant.

I have a suspicion that the EV part of the event is going to grow much bigger and it seemed to attract lots of people..not for me either..
