Friday really isn't noticeably quieter than Saturday / Sunday anymore, and you have to contend with busier (work-day traffic) roads.G
On another note, I was surprised to see people in the performance parking adjacent collection area just before the start-line parked close to the bales, with the cars waiting to go up the hill waiting the other side. On Saturday, for example, there was a scrum of people adjacent to Danny Ric's car, some resting bags etc. on the parked cars.

Oh god i'd have hated that. The startline PP is PP East so thankful I was at PP West. I don't remember getting any choice when I booked so I'm glad now I got the one I did - also much more convenient by the Tractor ride. I wonder if they allocate it based on home postcode and guessing which direction you would be approaching from.
I had the option when booking, and went for West as that's the way I approach from. Skylinecrazy said:
Sean’s had a below par season so far, and wouldn’t enjoy the changeable conditions judging by what’s unfolded this season.
Alex (although he was there) in the DJ or Wallace in the aforementioned GR59 would be on the money for the record IMO. Wallace’s car is very much a crowd pleaser too with the noise it makes.
I’m not sure a below par season includes new hill records at Doune and Loton but I appreciate the top 12 run offs are still in Menzies favour. Very much looking forwards to Prescott later this month…. Who holds the record there? Whilst attendance is the same, Friday certainly feels less busy (certainly to me, anyway), as others have pointed out that's probably because many people there for the weekend use Friday to roam the entire site, whereas Sat/Sun you're more likely to see people crowding the hill itself. On Friday I left the front of the crowd line after every single batch to reposition myself, without fail I managed to gain another position at the front elsewhere in time for the next batch, there is no way that's possible on Sat/Sun.

Yep, that is a fair point and quite likely the case. Certainly I spent far longer wandering aout on Friday than was the case Saturday (happily planted in a dry grandstand seat watching the cars / drivers struggle with the slippery, wet hill) and Sunday......
I was marshalling on Thursday and spectated on Saturday. In my opinion it was a very well organised event giving near normality most welcome. Foot in both camps I think full marks to goodwood for arranging at virtual last minute. Let’s hope as a pilot event the data won’t suggest all other events can’t continue with growing confidence for everyone’s sake.
2021 was my first time at the FOS after many years of planning to attend but not quite making it, I went on the Fri & Sat and really enjoyed it!
I've seen many posts previously from those who've been attending the FOS for years complaining about how crowded the event has become in recent times to the point where its detracting from the overall experience - out of interest, how did the 2021 event compare to the usual crowd levels?
Goodwood did say pre-event that they weren't selling out the grandstands (although it didnt look like it on the Sat!) and some staff I spoke to at the Goodwood shop said it was only about 75-80% of the usual crowds
While Friday crowds seemed relatively light, Saturday was notably busier with grandstands full, large queues for food stalls and the likes of Future lab etc - so I was curious as to how much busier it usually gets (in non-covid years) than it was this year? I loved the event, but have to admit huge crowds much bigger than this year would put me off returning!!

The numbers were down this year, it made it feel more like it was in the early days, which made it better in my opinion.Wrc.555 said:

That’s about right.

In non pandemic times, what you saw on the Saturday would be chicken feed. You have to know where the bolt holes are, and when to head there. This year it was no where near as crazy.tonymor said:

It was certainly pushing the limits to absolute breaking point regarding mixing socially ( particularly in the F1 paddock as the cars were being fired up). That was the entire point. This will prove a point (one way or the other ). If there’s a Cheltenham style spike, and it causes a spike in hospitalisations, it’s gone tits up, if there isn’t, it hasn’t. We’ll see in a fortnight.Maximus_Meridius101 said:

Really!! I did notice on past years footage those standing trackside looked to be about 15 - 20 people deep in busy places vs 6 or 7 deep this yearThats a shame in a way as Sat this year was what I would have called busy but without impacting the enjoyment of the day, but significantly more people than that would begin to diminish the experience quite a bit. I can certainly see why folk who have been going for years are frustrated about the crowds!
I'd probably rather pay £20 more for a ticket and have fewer people than have it packed out, but i guess the organisors would like it both ways!
I had suspected crowds were lower than previous years based on how smoothly the trains and Chichester shuttle bus ran!
Glad I made it this year then to get a feel for how it used to be!

Well done for marshalling, events like this wouldn't be able to run without you and others doing this, it is appreciated and I always try and say thanks to a few marshalls when attending.Wrc.555 said:

It would be economically tougher for them to run at the level we saw this year, however, rest assured that lots of data and feedback will have been analysed, and shared with the commercial partners. It may well be that numbers are trimmed in future, and the commercial partners will take up the slack, so that prices don’t go up as much as they could. Happy punters spend more, that’s not something that will be wasted on them.Thats a shame in a way as Sat this year was what I would have called busy but without impacting the enjoyment of the day, but significantly more people than that would begin to diminish the experience quite a bit. I agree that he is probably the quickest car/combination but Wallace has got the set up of his car absolutely nailed.

I thought the patron armband was for the revival?
It’s the single most expensive piece of cloth I own. I’m wearing it at every opportunity ( which is kind of the point ultimately). The benefit is getting onto the pit lane roof at the revival ( and having the engraving of our names on the new pit wall) but I’ll put it on for all Goodwood events ( and my overall patch on my overalls when not at Goodwood too). We have a patron’s version of the pin badge too, and a gold windscreen sticker ( rather than the normal GSA blue windscreen sticker).Edited by Maximus_Meridius101 on Tuesday 13th July 19:25
I only attended on Sunday. It didn’t seem that crowded at all. I would say the grandstands were less than half empty at any one time. Most of the posh hospitality likewise. Driving in and out no problem. Interestingly when I booked our tickets, Saturday was already sold out, so maybe Sunday is traditionally a bit quieter, which seems odd considering the shoot out is on the Sunday.
