I only attended on Sunday. It didn’t seem that crowded at all. I would say the grandstands were less than half empty at any one time. Most of the posh hospitality likewise. Driving in and out no problem. Interestingly when I booked our tickets, Saturday was already sold out, so maybe Sunday is traditionally a bit quieter, which seems odd considering the shoot out is on the Sunday.
In normal times, the Saturday is the day when most people have a day to recover ( Sunday ). These weren’t normal times, all bets were off, but it did work brilliantly.

It’s the single most expensive piece of cloth I own. I’m wearing it at every opportunity ( which is kind of the point ultimately). The benefit is getting onto the pit lane roof at the revival ( and having the engraving of our names on the new pit wall) but I’ll put it on for all Goodwood events ( and my overall patch on my overalls when not at Goodwood too). We have a patron’s version of the pin badge too, and a gold windscreen sticker ( rather than the normal GSA blue windscreen sticker).

My wife and I weren’t too happy about the Covid ‘experiment’ and emailed Goodwood a couple of days before it started to ask whether we could get any refund. Just received a full refund which I think is pretty impressive.

Shame. You missed a great event. Your loss.

First one we’ve missed for many years but happy with our decision.

Curious what you had issues with? Did you expect a normal event when you booked it?

I can see where you were coming from. I was also on the fence until the week of the event. However, I took a deep breath and got on with it. Ultimately, I’m glad I did. I did hear a lot of people who were a bit un easy on the Saturday morning, but not so much by the end of play on Saturday, or on Sunday.

We were initially hoping it would go ahead with much reduced capacity but it became clear that Goodwood were using the Pilot Event status to increase capacity right up to the end. Then we saw the event map which looked pretty thin on the ground. Final straw was the behaviour of England football fans which clearly demonstrated large groups can’t be trusted to behave responsibly in terms of social distancing. My wife was worried so we made the decision not to go.

They’d put in some good measures including one way lanes in places and an extra bridge to relieve pinch points, but if you weren’t going to feel comfortable then it’s a good call.

It was very odd walking around and speaking to visitors without any masks - wearers made up a tiny fraction of a percent all weekend.

Thankfully the Goodwood crowd were a very different bunch to the baboons that plague football. Loved it Saturday, quiet first thing and busier later but never uncomfortably so for me and the OH.

Totally respect you didn't want to go though, that's the beauty of freedom of choice.

In the end, I don't think any of your main objections were realised but I agree, it was your call and the right thing to do. It's good to hear that Goodwood honoured its commitment to giving refunds.

Is there anything anyone would -realistically- like to see changed about the event? So I'm not talking about removing manufacturers and turning it into a clubbie hill climb, but things that could make a difference? I was looking forward to the survey but it wasn't really aimed at the average person making suggestions for the good of the event.

I thought the addition of the Molecomb bridge was a huge positive and made the flow through the event so much better, it also meant quite a few more people spectating right towards the top (or walking to the rally stage) which hopefully reduced the load on the tractor a bit.

Agreed. The Covid bit probably took 10 seconds of my time. It was just like an additional ticket check.

None of the bits we went into needed masks, and beyond that it was a normal event for me.

I wasn’t a fan of the molecomb bridge as it was smack where I’ve always watched the event so has now cut off the viewing. For me they should put it the other side of flint wall.

I agree the extra bridge was much needed, although we did queue for a long time for the tractor so I'm not sure it reduced pressure on that but did reduce some of the walking for us.

What I'd like to see is more places to sit or lean - even just some extra scattered hay bales would have been nice. I know they want to sell grandstand tickets but with the mud from the rain the usual 'let's just sit on the floor' wasn't an option for most of the site so apart from the main food areas there wasn't any respite. I don't fancy carrying a camping chair around all day (although noticed that some did).

As none of the grandstands seemed that full it would have been nice if we could have paid something on the day to upgrade or even just get a 30 minute place in one once the weather was known. Next time I may pay for these but I'll be annoyed if the weather is nice and we don't use them.

There are a couple of free grandstands towards the top of the hill and they added a lot more picnic benches this year, but yes it did seem odd that so many grandstands were basically empty.

I missed not having more manufacturers stands oddly enough old fashioned maybe but I’ve always liked the atmosphere of a bit of everything .

Thanks I didn't realise that, I assumed all of them were for pass holders only - we covered the whole site so I must have walked past them!

One facing directly onto the course at the very top of the hill before you enter the bottom of the rally stage, and another in the next area down that's facing back down the hill. There is also another free one a little further down, facing away from the course overlooking the off-road course.

Mental note made for next visit - thank you, I could have done with the one after we walked back down from the rally stage as the pigeon steps in the mud to avoid a 'You've been Framed' moment were hard work!
