One constant is that everyone believes this year is busier than before. It's an illusion!
All Goodwood events have a restricted capacity (50k per day for FoS and Revival and 20k for MM) and they usually sell out.
The busiest Goodwood event ever was the FoS of 2003, the last year before the restrictions were imposed.

As I said earlier I suspect people were just staying near firmer ground. All Goodwood events have a restricted capacity (50k per day for FoS and Revival and 20k for MM) and they usually sell out.

I went yesterday and whilst the paddock seemed very busy at 1230 walked into the food market and it was almost empty. Food served straight away and a table found with ease, that has never happened for me. No issues getting to a fence at any point around the circuit and no big lines for the bars around the circuit.
3pm and the great hall was a ghost town, I suspect people making most of the warmer weather. I left at 1830 and left the car park without stopping and was home the quickest I’ve ever been on a goodwood event.

The drive to and from Goodwood on Saturday was very light on traffic (thanks for the warning on road closures!).I went yesterday and whilst the paddock seemed very busy at 1230 walked into the food market and it was almost empty. I’ve no experience of prior MM but FOS was much busier. Some queues for toilets but only where people didn’t seem to realise there was another block 1min away with no queue. Similar experience with food, you could get served with a relatively short queue for most stalls.
Ladies toilets not in a great state so my wife told me. No water from the taps so she had to wipe soap off her hands / use hand sanitiser when she went in the afternoon. Also as a vegan she did have some food options but we could not find any greenery/salads anywhere.

Yes, that was my experience too. No queue for lunch in the Members' Market. We also popped into the Daffodil for a drink and had no problem getting a seat (well a straw bale). It's usually standing room only in there.I went yesterday and whilst the paddock seemed very busy at 1230 walked into the food market and it was almost empty. The warm weather must have brought far more people out to the trackside than usual.
My first MM. Only joined the GRRC as we went into lockdown so not really had much chance to explore. Learnt a few lessons for next time re orientation, parking and catering but on the whole a most enjoyable experience. The racing was good, the commentators I thought were excellent (ear radio essential), food and drink not cheap but a decent selection, everyone; competitors and guests very happy to be there. Will go again next year, cash permitting.
I hope that chap's leg's alright. I watched it happen from the Chicane grandstand. When they started to rock the VW and the guy was wheelside, I thought "get out of there" - better training required in this instance. Once ascertaining that the driver was conscious they should have waited for a truck - it would have only have been a minute. It's not just the driver's safety that needs to be considered.

After all the concern over carparks I had no issues at all in the Lavant car park. I arrived at about 9:30am on Sunday and there wasn't much traffic and surface was fine even in the Aston.
Unlike others I didn't feel the event was busier than previous years. I have previously been critical of the increase in numbers at both the revival and the MM but yesterday was pretty consistent with previous years. It may be my imagination but it felt like there was more catering available which although always overpriced was a positive for me. I did notice that there appeared to be less in the way of house activities which historically my kids have enjoyed
For those struggling to watch the racing I found the Lavant parking was a great place to observe the back straight. Plenty of space, catering and a great car park of cars to look at.

I didn't really think it was any busier either, certainly not as hectic as Revival (Though a previous poster suggests it's the same amount of people for Revival and MM?) I was a little disappointed with the slimming down of family activities which have always been great - The aforementioned gymnasium was always a great spot to go have a chill out and let the kids enjoy some table tennis, just let off a bit of steam or play the games outside. Some good fun live music acts around though which my nieces loved.
The racing and cars were as always wonderful, the variety of cars at Goodwood events really is unparalleled, loved the little Honda N600 plastered in mud and nestled near the track between a 992 GT3 and a Ferrari 550. The 250 GTO just sat near the GRRC shop looked spectacular too, and whilst I'm not one to dwell on the absurd values of these things, it does seem incredible (and great) that something worth £50m is just left there like that for people to appreciate close up.
We usually end up coming from the South via the A27 which is never much fun but this year our AirBnB was just South of Petworth and coming in from the North was an absolutely breeze, no traffic at all and fortunately the car parks were ok if rather moist.

Having been a GRRC member for 20 years now I’ve been to many, many events over the years. About 8 years ago I decided to start doing one year on, one year off for the main events so didn’t go to this years MM. What I did find though was the TV coverage was exceptional IMO. The only thing missing was the smell of Castrol though!
I didn't think it was any busier around the circuit than any other year but the grandstands were certainly more full so perhaps more people are buying the roving GS tickets.
We got served really easily in the Shell and I found the queues for food, tea and coffee moved quickly. As always they ran out of draught ale in the Shell which seems odd, they must know from previous years they need more!
On Saturday we came in over the Trundle and queued for maybe 15 mins to get in, on Sunday about the same queuing along New Road by Lavant, I thought the parking stewards did a good job of keeping it flowing. Car parks were absolutely fine just a bit soft; we were in A on Saturday, B on Sunday. Apparently the camping was a disaster but we don't camp.
Racing was very good with only a few red flags. And yes we watched the marshal stand under the VW Golf as it was being righted, no words needed!
Shame about the gymnasium disappearing because that was a great place to sit and relax. Apparently it's making space for the Tyrrell wood shed which is being relocated from Ockham.
All in all a very enjoyable weekend and I'll be back next year!

The AMG GT Black Series in the Governors Parking - filthy, on German plates with a horse shoe stuck to the bonnet. Anybody know what the story is there? Any guesses who the owner is?
Also interested to know this one!In at 6-30 to avoid queues , wonderful time had, walked nearly 15miles (so much to see - St Mary's , Paddock, No Name , did I mention the paddock) talked to lots of interesting folk, from a former F1 driver to sundry nobodies like me, perved over endless gorgeous cars and will be back next year .
Busy ? Nah, same as usual I thought . Food - well, what I bought was excellent, as was the very decent coffee. It might cost 20% more than the slurry I've often endured at Croft and Oulton Park but so what , it's so much nicer. Programme ditto - yes it's twenty quid but it is superbly designed and written and you get a radio too. I wrinkled my nose at hearing 'purple sector time ' and 'Turn One' and had a fit of the vapours when I heard a commentator refer to 'Brands' of car on the grid but Alice Powell was bloody excellent .
It isn't perfect - I'd like to see more European and US cars and drivers but it puts virtually everything else in the shade . Well done the Dook and his team .

Was it a real 250 GTO though, it look, to my untrained eye, like a GTO body on a 60s Ferrari base, one of the staff there told me it was Nick Masons, no reason to doubt what he said, but it wasn’t Nick Masons original car with the 250 GTO number plate, this was GTO 250A.I’m sure someone out there will know

She was good and she had a voice that you could hear clearly but it was her that referred to purple sector times. As it happens my wife (she like motor racing) found a web site on her phone that gave live timing. It was an excellent complement to the radio because it showed lap times, positions (green arrow up or red arrow down for places gained or lost), fastest lap in purple, last lap time and the duration left to go. I find the big screens to small (they've shrunk over the years) to see the details so being able count the clock down made the races even more enjoyable.
