No, but not what they would have wanted, when it spends 99% of the time in the Porsche Museum.

I've just watched the M1 crash on Youtube , driver not familiar ?
Missed a slight kink to the right , wheel on grass and not a hope of slowing in time for the corner .

Can't find the 911 GT1 crashing .
That car is unique if it's the 98 , they only ever made the 1 I believe .
It was the 98 car, but they made 3 race cars I believe, including 2 factory cars (they finished 1-2 at LM)

Car got out of shape and flicked the tail into the left hand barrier/bushes ripping off the rear wing. The rest of the car appeared undamaged

Travis.

If you get chance and, when it appears on YouTube, have a watch.

It really was a joy to behold. He really was giving it the absolute beans!

I was watching on ITV and as soon as Travis pulled to the line I said this will be 110%.
He's a different breed.
If you ever get the chance to watch his film "199 Lives", you won't regret it.

FoS may feel brutally busy but there is one area that still offers some respite from the crowds (and is pretty good at shading you from whatever the weather might be doing)...

My first time at FOS, I arrived Wednesday with my caravan, leaving Sunday or Monday depending on traffic. I’m staying in one of the events camping fields which I’m impressed with.

Thursday was ok, spent a full day walking round, Thankfully I have grandstand tickets for the 4 days as they are needed with the rain. Didn’t seem to be many car manufacturers stands with cars to look at and sit inside as I had been told there normally Is.

Went in again early afternoon on Friday after the rain had stopped but didn’t see anything I hadn’t seen on Thursday.

To be honest I’m glad today was cancelled as I felt I saw it all on day 1 and got fed up with walking through the crowds. The cars going along the track were initially good to see, but after you’ve seen a few it quickly gets boring. Would happily have gone home after Thursday but I’m here with others so can’t.

Saw a few celebrities walking around including Jenson Button, Kryton from Red Dwarf, James Martin the chef and Matt from High Peak Autos (he’s tiny).

Glad I came as I like to experience big live events but 4 days here is far too long for me and doubt I’ll come again. It glad I didn’t go to RIAT(RAF Fairford) as I had considered as that doesn’t sound fun this year with the weather.
Mmm, one day and you saw everything.
Fair enough but unlikely you enjoyed yourself if you managed to see everything in one day

Maybe I walk quicker than you and spend less time looking at stuff? I walked around again on the Friday and didn't really discover any areas I hadn't already seen on Thursday, but Friday allowed me to spend a bit more time looking at stuff and I spent a bit more time in the grandstands. Thursday was a full day having already arrived the day before, we were in there from opening to closing.

Went to a local air museum on the Saturday and Jensen Button was also there with his family.

I popped back into FOS this morning (Sunday) but the grandstands looked chocka block full and the place was heaving, I decided to leave around midday so I that wouldn't get held up in all the mad departure traffic whist towing my caravan.

My only real criticism of FOS is the lack of areas to set up a camping chair and watch the cars race past due to the bails of straw blocking your view, you have to stand up to see the cars. Glad I had grandstand tickets.

Took 6hrs to get home, overall it was a good experience but one I won't be doing again. But I'm like that with most stuff, I spent 5 days camping at Silverstone F1 a few years ago, good experience but I wouldn't go again now that I have done it. One thing I will say in favour of FOS is how accessible the cars and drivers are, which was good to see, at F1 you are made to know your place, being that of a poor person who really shouldn't be there. FOS was the opposite.

Enjoyed my trip today, not been in a few years. Got in to the car park at about 7.45, there was a queue from the Weald and Downland museum but it was only maybe 5 minutes or so, nice and easy.
Weather was good, Travis Pastranas run was epic and there were some fantastic cars as always. Nice to see Vettel, and the Merc F1 car playing the national anthem.
Always a good, if exhausting day out!

Goodwood 2023 done…

Weather was great today, and lots of very happy people that had chosen to come on Sunday instead of Saturday!

Roll on 2024!

No wonder my annual JLR tracker subscription is so expensive! I don’t even get a wristband.

I think I heard on the tannoy that Max Chilton ran a 39.8 in his demo run this morning? I think it was an error mentioning it as even McMurtry themselves are just saying 'it was a demo run' when asked.

Kinda puts most of the timed shootout into perspective. Saying that, Travis' run was worth the price of admission alone.

BMW M1 was painful to see in the bails.
I'm amazed some of these cars have been driven so hard, given how rare/valuable they are.

Olaf Manthey also took the door mirror off the GT2 RS Clubsport.
In the grand scheme of things a 10k repair is nothing on a £250,000 car.
I was chatting v to someone from Ten tenths about repairing Nick masons 512bb that hit a slow car (slowed down on track)on the hill. He explained what they’ll do , it’s annoying but that’s part of the risk.

Nick Mason’s ex Giles Villeneuve 1978 Ferrari 312 was extremely badly damaged by Mike Wilds in the 1994 FoS. Both the Ferrari and Wilds were repaired.

First time for me at the FoS on Sunday for probably 15 years and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was dreading the much talked about traffic queues to get onto site, plus the potential for a long walk from a public car park to the event area with a 5 year old. However, my fears we unfounded and thanks to a bit of pre-planning (and no doubt a lot of luck) we arrived at about 9am and spent less than 5 minutes queuing to get into a public car park, and found ourselves next to the Porsche GB parking area so less than 5 minutes of walking and we were through the gate and enjoying the experience. I only mention my own experience to give a balanced review to some of the terrible experiences others have reported, not to gloat in any way.

Yes the event was mega busy, and of course this did have a negative effect it wasn't always possible to get a good viewpoint of the runs up the hill, or the cars in the paddock, but i'm very much of the opinion that 'it it was it is'. I chose to save money by not buying a grandstand seat, so on that basis I don't feel like I should complain too much that my view of the hill was limited. I still got to see plenty of 'on-track' action during the day which was great to see and hear. I found that the although the paddock was very busy this seemed to mainly be when the drivers were about, which will always pull a massive crowd at these events. Most of the stuff I wanted to see (F1 and Le Mans) were accessible and it's a real treat hearing these cars fire-up from 6 feet away.

I've seen some criticism that the event is becoming too much like a mainstream motorshow and FoS should primarily be about motorsport and it's history, whilst others aren't happy that big manufacturers don't have enough of a presence... both of these are probably reasonable points of view but it just highlights that you can please all of the people, all of the time. I don't have an opinion on what it should ultimately be, but for me it was a great day out and I'd happily consider going again in the future.

No criticism of anyone elses POV, just my own experience of the day.

Didn't crash, brushed the hay and lost the rear spoiler.
Little bit more than that, front corner was crunched and some of the side skirt too. Source: saw it in the paddocks after. They had the cover lifted up and a laptop plugged in.

I believe that car is the 98 Le Mans winner. I would be fairly mortified if I had damaged it.

Seemed like a lot of crashes yesterday. Everyone thrown off by lack of Saturday running maybe. By my count it was M1 ProCar, Leyton House F1, Lark F1, Carrera GT1, and I'm sure I heard of a fifth.

For anybody who went, did you see the Lancia 037 or Delta S4? I thought they were scheduled to go up the hill in the WRC batch but I didn't see them.

Nothing happends at GFOS without being filmed!

Looks like it was the bumps that got it. Just lost the back end putting the power down, had a bit of a wiggle and the wing endplates caught the hay.

Back end then falls off a bit further up the hill. Collected in a trailer like doing a tip run after a day gardening hehe
