We were discussing elsewhere on PH about how many members the GRRC has vs Fellows. The fellowship numbers are published and the member numbers are not. Or so we thought……

Thanks to a sleuthing GRRC member they found the following website:

https://www.fineprint.co.uk/portfolio/grrc-members...

Fine Print fulfil the entire package, loading all the materials and mailing directly to over ten thousand GRRC members around the world.

Yes 10,000! (And that won’t include family members I suspect as the 2nd badge is included in the same pack).

And there was some discussion that in fact that might be an old number!

This image from that website confirms that.

Yep and the badges are from 2019 although looks like the page hasn’t been updated since 2021 which I suspect is why people are discussing higher numbers.

Someone did ask the GRRC on FB what the membership numbers were but there’s some questionable moderating going on and it seems to have been removed.

Excellent work!
Those pictures contain the 2019 badge, so it is reasonable to expect the text was written at the same time... so as has been said, may well have increased.

I actually feel even more done over and quite angry about the lies from the GRRC.
I think this has been 'let go' by the members in the past, but this time it has spurred people in to a bit more action rather than passively absorbing the lies.

The question has also been asked on the GRRC Forum and I took the liberty of posting it there.
p.s. Where was the discussion that contained the link to Fineprint?

Beat me to it. I think it is important that everyone knows this figure.
Goodwood are going to be seething.

I am frustrated by the lack of any real response from the GRRC there looks to be around 100 people on the Facebook alone that have said they are leaving over this and as Sarah put on a PH thread “there’s nothing they can do” (more or less). Some of these people have been members for 25 years! Any business loosing long standing customers should be very concerned. And at the very least acknowledge that you are listening to feedback even if you don’t plan to act on it.

It got me thinking, anyone remember Marion/Mariam? I think it was. Took over after James MacNoughton as GRRC manager. She tried to change things for the better for us as enthusiasts and found herself very quickly out of a job. Is it a case of no one putting their head above the parapet for fear of getting shot by the big man and out the door?

Although one assumes Fineprint made the GRRC aware that they had showcased the member's packs on their website.

In a thread regarding the adverts for membership we all got in emails this week. Posted yesterday.

I bet Goodwood hadn't approved that text.
Since it was one of Goodwood's closest secrets that would be very foolish of them.
Then again, it is quite possible.

I do remember. I think she lasted less than a season. As you say, I suspect she tried to work for the members and that wasn't a good fit with Goodwood's direction.

Did anyone apply to be the GRRC Marketing Manager in 2021?
https://alljobspro.com/supporting-documents/196/Cl...

Or Membership Secretary in 2016
https://www.alljobspro.com/supporting-documents/19...

Posted just so we can see what they are supposed to be responsible for.

With figures of 10k plus (and as you say for family members that’s 2 x badges and 4 x paddock passes) it doesn’t feel particularly exclusive anymore. You start to think it might be nearer to 15k with family membership. That said it hasn’t felt any less or more busy at the Revival for the past couple of years and the immediate pre-Covid times.
Why are Goodwood so concerned about releasing the numbers I wonder?

15,000 members would be around £5m a year revenue before anyone buys any tickets. Not bad at all...

That would cover the entire dividend that the Road Racing Company paid to the Estate in the last published accounts.

Edit: Club corrected to Company.

I suspect that being presented with an oportunity at full membership is less appealing when they see the cost.
If they have only been an Associate member for 12 months, all they can 'claim back' it the first year's subs against the joining fee.

£79 for last year as an Associate comes off the £355 joining fee, then you add the £355 Membership fee.
Next year as a Member = £631
Next year as an Associate member = £79

No point at all in upgrading from Fellowship to Full Membership.

The difference between the 10% & 25% discount rates on FOS & REV tickets come nowhere near the difference in the two Membership rates.

With the new Fellowship Pit Stops the advantages of the GRRC Membership Only areas are much less of a need.

Apart from the Revival Paddock Pass allowing you to look at the front of the car rather than the back, the only real benefit in full GRRC membership at FOS and the REV is having the "privilege" to buy a £25 breakfast or lunch in an enclosure or the "privilege" to upgrade to an even more expensive offering like the Kinrara or March enclosure etc.

My advice is that if you are a Fellow (that is actually reasonably good value for money), don't bother to upgrade to full GRRC membership, unless the few remaining so called benefits that you are actually going to utilise.

Full membership when their was only 5,000(now 10,000+) members and getting the free members FOS entry on Thursdays and a moderate £200+ membership fee it felt that you were in a slightly exclusive club of like minded enthusiasts, but unfortunately this feeling is being replaced with the knowledge that GRRC Membership is now being monetised as a lifestyle brand for wealthy wannabes to go with their designer clothing and social calendar.

Sad really, and it will only end in tears for Goodwood in the long term as the true and supportive motoring enthusiast are driven away, only to be replaced with the short term fashion brigade who will lose interest as quickly as they came.

There's going to be no-one left to fight off housing developments and the closure of the aerodrome/circuit, maybe that's the plan.
