Aston crash at Goodwood
Discussion
Mahoosive off right in front of us at the Stewart Pavillion.
As dougc said he dropped a n/s/r wheel onto the grass at a fair old rate of knots and was a complete passenger from that moment onwards.
The guy in the crowd seemed to have a gash over right eye but seemed ok, best wishes.
We spoke to the driver as he left the track and asked if he was OK, "Yes thank you, but a bit pissed off!" came the reply. No surprise there then.
Very busy there for a Friday this year. I wouldn't want to go today or tomorrow. Too busy for me...

The commentators didn't mention anything at the time.
The commentators do not talk about accidents at Goodwood. Not since the marshall lost his legs when somebody dropped an old Lotus F1 car (if memory serves) over the finsh line.If you can ever blag your way into the top paddock he is an interesting guy to chat to.

Both the Jag XKR and the AMV8's rear wheels just clipped the grass verge, that was all that was required to send the cars out of control. The Jag's rear end went and he corrected enough just to slide off the track into the bales of straw damaging the front nearside as shown in the pics. The real excitment however started about 5 mins after the incident when I guess the straw on the underside of the car caught fire. All seemed to be ok with driver. The Aston on the other hand was 'spectacular' the car clipped exactly the same grass edge, trouble was that the car literally dove straight in to the bales, front first, 90 degrees off the direction of travel, which sent it spinning at least 6 times across the to the otherside of the track and into those bales. Looked very nasty, the car really did just disintegrate and that made me wonder if it was just a body shell over the top?? Anyone know? Really sorry to hear there was an injury, but that corner is notorious, a Jag S-Type R went off there last year, as did the Lambo Murch.
All in all a really great day, not spoiled by the doom and gloom weather forcast.

friday geerally seems busier because it's cheaper and the amount of free tickets given out, i think sunday and saturday are a bit emptier to be honest!
Same amount of tickets for each day, I believe. I think that was the jist of the interview with Lord March I was listening to yesterday, 150k over the event, 50k per day.Red Firecracker said:

someone wore "i am the stig"
It wasn't a certain gentleman at the wheel of a rather tasty Quattro on the rally stage, was it?!?The Jag smash explains why it wasn't running yesterday.
The Aston smash...saw it about 50 yards from us (sadly camera was pointing downwards!), and yes he was going quick, but no quicker than many of the others...IMHO it was more his line that was the problem.
Re: numbers...it seemed quite a bit busier this year than 2 years ago, and was nearly impossible to navigate the F1 paddock whenever anything was happening...I can understand getting as many people in as want to come, but it was almost TOO busy some of the time. Might not go back next year, might leave it to 2009.
That said, I enjoyed it thoroughly!!! Weather was better than was forecast, which was nice, and my only disappointment was not going around the paddocks in the dry (they were too busy when we tried yesterday, so went today...in the pouring rain!). Oh...and the fields turned into mud REALLY badly today...getting in was an exercise in having a sensitive right-foot, getting out was an exercise in learning how to quell torque-steer (VTEC engine, not turbo! Saw a Scooby having more trouble than we were, not sure if driver or power...) at 2mph!!! Hope everyone got out safely today?!?

OK - That works, so here's my bit of photo-reportage from Goodwood on Friday.
We were standing opposite the grandstand, and the whole thing unfolded in front of us really.
As you could see from the youtube video, the Aston was fairly tonking along, and put a wheel (or two) on the grass just after the bridge - it lost grip and turned hard right into the straw bales:
Then it slewed from one side to the other, shedding bodywork as it went:
Still going:
Finally, halted:
Aston spares anyone?:
The driver (shaken and quite probably stirred!):
Oh hold on, that'll buff out!:
This is the guy in the stand opposite who was hit with flying debris. The paramedics got to him and treated him pretty quickly. Hopefully there was no serious injury. (P.S. If anyone recognises or knows the guy, and he doesn't want this photo on here, let me know by mail and I'll take it down):
The sorry sight of the Aston being trailered away:
Finally, no truer word....
Hope you like the photos.
