festival of speed
Discussion
Booked all 3 days, can't wait. Wish the telly reports were shown nationwide though and not just local to Goodwood. It all seems to be happening down there without me. Just love the party atmosphere for the whole week-end. Hope the weather is better than last year, only just dried out.

That early? Staying at her dads in Aldershot so looks like an early start.
I'd suggest so. There's an awful lot to see, from static displays, to cars going up the hill. Plenty more to see aswell, manufacturer displays, shops, and of course, the rally course.Cramming all of that into 12 hours is pretty difficult.
Two day's is probably a best idea. Try and get there on Saturday aswell.
My parents, who are in their 70s have got them so all weekend would literally kill them!
maybe next year when they aren't such a handful.

Don,t usually go every year but the LeMans cars will be on display as well as all the rest , then you get to see all the drivers , the historics , yes I,ve talked myself into it...I,M GOING !!
Listen mate, if you really want to see Le Mans cars that weekend, get on the ferry to Le Mans. You'll see a couple of hundred racing their nuts off through the night at the Classic Le Mans 24 hours.Christ knows why once again the organiser have allowed these dates to clash,

Lewis Hamilton has comfirmed his attendance.
but what days? he only came on sunday last year 23/5/08
Lewis Hamilton has confirmed his attendance to the Goodwood Festival of Speed being held at Goodwood Park from 11-13 July. Last year saw Lewis make his F1 debut to over 50,000 festival goers. This year he will again take his Mclaren F1 car up the 1.16 mile hillclimb route on Sunday 13 July. This year the festival is running a theme of "Hawthorn to Hamilton - Britain's Love Affair with World Motorsport", both Hawthorn and Hamilton have played a role in Goodwood's 60 years of motorsport, which is being celebrated at both the Festival of Speed and the Revival in September.

anyone got any gossip with regard to whats expected?
There are a couple of articles on the FOS in this moths (July 2008) Motor Sport. In one Dog Nye is asked to "preview a few of my potential favorites this year". He lists 10 cars that would be a good bet to be there, however every year there are great cars that don't appear in the programme, and cars mentioned in there that do not appear. Regardless I am sure it will be another fantastic day.The 10 Cars Doug Nye nominates are:
1908 GP Benz and Mercedes - the article mentions that there will be two at Goodwood, one from the Daimler-Benz museum and one from US collector George Wingard.
1953 Ferrari 375MM Berlinetta - as driven my Mike Hawthorn and Umberto Maglioli in the 1953 Pescara 12 Hours Race.
1957 Maserati 250F 'Lightweight' - as driven by Fangio in the 1957 German GP.
1965 Rotorvic Lotus-Ariel 23 - a Lotus 23 driven by 6 twin-cylinder two-stroke Ariel Arrow motorcycle engines arranged as a V12.
1969 4WD Lotus-Ford Type 64 - built for the 1969 Indy 500 but withdrawn before the race after Mario Andretti crashed one of the four built in practice.
1966 Lola-Ford T90 Red Ball Special - as driven by Graham Hill and Jackie Stewart at the 1966 Indy 500. The FOS will be celebrating 50 years of Lola cars and there will be quite a line up there.
1955-58 Aston Martin DB3S - '62 EMU' - driven to second at Le Mans in 1957.
1972 Ferrari 312B3 Spazzaneve - experimental 'snow plough' nosed F1 test vehicle using design clues from Tyrrel 005 tested at Fiorano during the winter 1972-73 but not followed up on.
1973 Brumos Porsche RSR - 1973 Sebring 12 Hours race-winning car.
2008 Gulf-Aston Martin DBR9 Coupe - should appear direct from Le Mans
