I think that the selection and spread of exotic/ interesting/ fast/ unusual/ expensive cars (what qualifies a car as a supercar?) on the pit straight and in the feature areas was great.

If the marshalls weren't careful it would turn into the 911, F360/430 and AMV8 Car Sunday which would be no more interesting than having a wander around any central London NCP.rolleyes

I arrived at about 8am before it was busy, by 10am it was chaos so I stood by the entrance admiring the cars as they came in. I must say a massive thank you to the Marshall on the main road who had the thankless task of sending all the Scoobys and Evos to the public car park. Most entertaining seeing them questioning his parenthood as they "boosted" there way up the road with their tail between their legs!

With the greatest respect they ain't supercars!

Dos it really matter where you park? FFS it's a great day out, a chance to gawp at some lovely cars, chat to friends and enjoy yourself in cracking surroundings. If anyone gets so stressed about whether or not they've got to park in the "right" place I suggest they find some mates and get a life.

The guys at Goodwood must read some posters and quite frankly, wonder why they bother. And don't give me any crap about breakfast costs either. If you don't like the way it's done, don't come. Simple. Lot's of us do like it and will continue to support it.
Loving the 2-11 Stephanie, looks ace!

Funny i doubt that anyone driving an evo or a scooby really looks on it as a supercar. They probably werent aware there was more parking down the road. And when you say 'parenthood' i assume you mean 'manhood'. To be honest there are some idiots who drive them, however the vast majority drive them because they are an awesome piece of engineering thats practical day to day. Dont judge a book by it cover dont they say!

"breakfast" meeting....... about 5 years ago, I recall around 10 cars a bike and a sidecar turned up! We had a bacon roll and left.
That got me thinking when did it all start...I remember going in 2006...and thought that was the first year...again 15 ish cars a good chat and decent brekkie...I would exchange the decent brekkie for the fantastic turnout and event last Sunday.
The first one was actually October 2005, which was a sort of trial run. The events proper (i.e. "Goodwood Breakfast Club")started in 2006.

Why the praise? Don't confuse these marshalls with the orange-suited beer-bellied brigade who donate their services for free (and hence according to the rule, are above any form of criticism) - these guys are paid to do a job. The Goodwood Breakfast Club runs for a fair few months and hence there's a day for everyone - why give something a SuperCar moniker and then lower the bar?

Looked to me (I arrived at around 9am - still in the realms of breakfast on a Sunday in my householdrolleyes) that there was little communication between the marshalls and hence they let people in with little space left. Goodwood knows how many cars can fit on the track / paddock / gravel and car-park to the right - even the most basic of sticker on the windscreen denoting which car-park would have alerted the marshalls within the guts of Goodwood which direction they should direct people to....idea

Don't get me wrong it was an excellent morning, with a wide variety of cars; both super/exotic/unusual etc - but with a little thought in planning the event it could be even better...

In my conversations with the marshalls, I was impressed that they had remained so good humoured given the amount of bhing that they must have listened to during the morning. Elmo I hope that you have given Goodwood some feedback and suggested some ways of improving the event rather than just having a whine about it on PH. They want to ensure the event is as good as it can be and can only make improvements when they understand what the issues are. I'm sure James reads the same thing on here time and time again, breakfast cost too much, food is cold, marshalls wouldn't know one of a car from the other. The reality is that most people posting here didn't have a problem with the day and enjoy the format and the breakfasts seem to have improved as well.

Did anyone notice 'The Boss' (Lord March) wandering around on Sunday morning?

Yep, all they need to do is contact everyone who may or may not be bringing a car of note (at the owner's expense) and give them an allocated time of arrival window (say about 90 secs each way). It matters not that it's an event whose very attraction is the 'ad-hoc' nature of what is going to trundle in through the gates.
That way, not only will they be able to park in a colour co-ordinated sequence, they could also sort out some kind of alphabetical arrangement, too.
Maybe anything with over 500 bhp at this end of the straight and 'sub 4 secs' to 60 at the other end.
How about lining the cars up in age order?
The possibilities are endless.

You do realise that the Marshalls have no idea what car is going to turn up next, don't you? The cars aren't coming from a single privately owned collection, but from random members of the public and from all over the country.
They can't leave space just in case a particular type/make of car is going to make an appearance. They are forced to make it up as they go along. In this respect, they do very well.

In my opinion, the whole randomness of the event is what makes it fun.

Just as interesting is walking around the public car park, there's some excellent machinery there as well.

Most of us do. Just one or two complainers that didn't arrive early enough and think Goodwood should have arranged a private spot with red carpet and exhibition lighting for their ever so special car. (and of course the compuslory £12 breakfast)

Err...wrong. How do you think Goodwood had the phone number of the Bugatti owner to ask where he was - a seance the night before tongue out

During the early breakfast clubs they used to marshall things very well, and even recently they had cars prebooked (mainly from the GRRC) with individual fact sheets about every car lined up on the track - very professionally done - seems at odds with Goodwoods attention to detail that they would drop this?

And as is becoming increasingly customary on PH, when an individual posts an opinion or offers some feedback, rather than the majority who will either disagree and offer reasons why, or agree, but in mitigation etc etc - individuals decide a personal insult ("that'll show'em") is directed to the OP is the way to go - cheapens the debate somewhat.....redcard

You must for work for the Daily Mail to misquote in such an obvious fashion! Perhaps when you have something constructive to add to the debate, you'll get in touch with Goodwood.

In the meantime, the rest of us will continue to enjoy the event for what it is.

I didn't pre-book and my two friends and I ended up on the pit straight. Go figure. Perhpas they were waiting for us, although I don't recall any of us getting a phone call.

Do you think that to a large degree it could be pot luck?

FWIW I think the marshalls and car parking staff do a top job of coordinating the movement of 100's of cars around the site with little or no congestion of note. Bearing in mind that all of this is a free car show, perhaps expectations can't justifiably be of a red carpet and fanfare type reception?

Surely it's just supposed to be something where people with interesting and nice cars have a chance to show them off, there were some very miffed Porsche and TVR and Rari owners having a moan but my god, how many do we have to see on one day? Be thankful you own it and be satisfied that people wander round all the car parks and will cast an admiring glance your car's way anyway.

I think the marshalls did a great job considering the amount of cars that turned up. It's almost become a bit sad to see the huge volumes of people there moaning about certain cars and replicas being there at all, getting in the way of everyone else just because they have a big camera and want a nicer picture than the 15 year old with a camera phone that they decide to push out of their way (you know who you are). Don't get me wrong, I'll still be going down but I do keep it in the spirit of an informal BREAKFAST club, not an alldayer for the car bores...

I pulled in in my jag and then an F40 after me and once the Pagani came along , It seemed to dry up of supercars for the straight,It seemed to me they had a half empty strait to fill so they directed everything that came to fill the space.
My only gripe was NOT the cost of Breky ,but the half hour wait to get served with windows closed in a hot stuffy room , then problems finding a Table.I ended up doing burgers at the Char wagon at the back.
Also too many people for me.I was hoping to at least identify some of the owners and have a chat.It was more like a supercar sunday show than a "breakfast Club meeting".
Would have been nice to have a parade of the top 40 cars round the track.
.....oh and while im in full swing, I got my car dirty.

On the whole a great morning!

Rather than have numerous cars dotted around in various locations (numerous car parks, track, pits, etc) why not have all the Supercars displayed along a larger part of the track itself?

I missed many cars because they were hidden in car parks over the back. Surely by using more of the track this would also provide more room and avoid the large crowd of people all looking at the cars on a small amount of the track they currently use - why not spread the display out a bit as they have plenty of space available?
