For your info there has been an accident on the A27 at Crossbush/Arundel and Police have shut the road in both directions until further notcie due to diesel on the road..... long delays I'm afraid!

I came down this bit of road at 07.30 this morning. Lost the back end on whatever it was and just caught it in time before I stuffed it it the armco. Pulled over, dialled 999 and reported it to the police, presuming they'd do something.

On my way back, I heard on the radio the road was closed due to a bad accident at 08.30.

Well I tried - just hope no-one was hurt. Nil points to the police for their inaction.

They were probably too busy setting up a speed trap to be bothered with anything as trivial as a serious road safety situation.

I lost it too, and just as I'd recovered it one of those traffic cops appeared over the brow of the hill

Hmm, should have checked this on my phone before I planned my route home!
The queues were still bad at 11.30 - I cut across country and took a different route to the M27 smile

Just as a update, this road, the MAJOR south coast artery, was closed until nearly 6.30 this evening. The traffic chaos was appalling with some horrendous delays. Had it been a working day then serious repercussions would have been involved.

Turned out to be a diesel spill, and the unfortunate car involved lost control and took out power lines in the ensuing crash. Making those safe and re-surfacing the road took all day.

Rather glad I left late & had to take diversions all over the place, the last thing you want to encounter on a Sunday morning trip down to Goodwood yes

It rather spoiled my day!

I live near Arundel and went with my 2 nippers to meet some friends at Goodwood. We got snarled up in the traffic and in the end gave up and went home (there are alternative routes but the additional time would have taken us close to midday). I was quite grumpy until Federer won the French Open in the afternoon.

Having said all of that, I hope no-one was hurt in the accident.

Thanks to those who have posted the great pictures on other threads. I will leave at 6am for the meet on 28th June!

I got stuck in that traffic and saw plenty of others who looked like they were heading that way too, knowing I was so close I trusted the sat nav to take me round and eventually popped out "at the scene" where plod directed me towards Chi on the A27 and back on route, it looked like a traffic island had been reduced to rubble and a lamp post taken down (severing the power lines maybe?) - I wasn't going to take in too much detail with plod all around.

On my return I ducked off the A27 at Yapton and cut thru to Littlehampton but still got stuck in Ford as it seemed everywhere was suffering the knock on tailbacks!

From the reports I read (albeit on the Argus site) the diesel was effect, rather than cause, of the accident?

It was certainly fine when I went through a bit before 7:30. Glad I left early though and avoided most of the delays on the way back.

Came back from Goodwood mid-afternoon, having dodged down the A259 in the morning as nothing seemed to be moving, and Eastbound traffic past Arundel was flowing normally.
Got to the Beefeater at the top of Station Road and there was a Highways van blocking the opposite carriageway. Sand all over the road but no sign of any repair or other work in progress.
Horrendous Westbound queue on the Westbound DC approaching the traffic lights.

If the spot in question is just around the corner from the pub as you come off the dual carriageway, I went through there at about 7:35am and as I rounded the corner to go down the hill towards the station bridge, I came across a little blue Corsa just bouncing off the armco and coming to rest with it's backside up on the kerb. Looked like a cracked bumper and embarrassed driver...

Shocked me a little, especially as I was in my 300 mile-old R26.R on new R888 Toyo's : thoughts of a major one sprung immediately to mind!!!

Luckily was only doing 40mph and stopped square and safe - checked driver ok and he waved me on. Didn't realise it was a spill, just thought Corsa + bend in wet = accident....

Hope those involved in the 8:30am accident were all ok.
