Goodwood Breakfast Club 7th March 2010

[quote=RichB]There were some great cars there, some odd ones too and the comedy car of the day had to be the grey Ford Focus parked on the main straight, bang-slap in the middle of the grid line, anyone know what that was about?
Hi Rich,
It was a tax exempt vehicle... hybrid or electric I think... Hence it qualified for tax free Sunday!

Lovely to see Goodwood entering into the spirit of 2010 eco life... Millions of pounds worth of Classic and Performance 5 star only cars, with a nod at political correctness... Long may it continue...J

Crikey it was a busy event today! lots of lovely vehicles on show and the weather was glorious if a little biting with the wind, did anyone hear the orange/red 911 RSR leave? it was parked on the main straight..what a noise you could still hear it echoing around the circuit quite some time after it had left! loved it.. also a certain ph members quattro sounded gorgeous as he left! Roll on april's meeting.

Thank you sir... To be fair, knowing the car is in excess of 107db, I keep it down on site and today, I didn't open it up until well after the first roundabout (north) away from the circuit. But I suspect it (the noise) is probably worse (louder) at distance.... At Sunseeker it was best described as loud at close range and 'memorable' at distance...The RSR was an awesome looking car, loved to have seen it in action...

It was a lovely day (if a bit cold). The only slight point was that I was directed to the field to park despite my prominently displayed nice new British racing green GRRC membership sticker. My cars not tax exempt (far from it, 415 quid a year), but it did make my urine boil when several (modern) cars in front and behind were waved into the off track parking and didn't have any visible GRRC stickers displayed. This dispelled my initial thought that it may have been because the off track circuit parking was full. I know we GRRC members don't get special dispensation because of the whole GRRclub / GRRcompany thing, but I was less than impressed with that to say the least. Other than that it was a fantastic day with some lurvely machinery on display.

One of my most entertaining moments at a breakfast club was listening to the marshalls having to put up with the mithering of many drivers who couldn't park where they wanted( start finish straight etc)Get over it!
Haven't been on in a while but just had to come on and say a massive thanks to everyone who turned up to GW on Sunday morning. I've been going to the GBC since it started (not every one mind) as I'm fairly local and the run over to GW is one of my faves in the Wedge.
Anyhoo, it was a bl00dy cold morning and I didn't think many would turn out. I popped up to the top of Portsdown hill for the customary brekkie in a bun and coffee (more for less, sorry Goodwood) and there wasn't a soul there, even more reason to suspect a low turnout. Even when I joined the queue at the RR roundabout I didn't think so many would come. I parked up near the back of the car park on the RH side and spent about 45 mins just looking round there!
I was frankly astonished by the number of cars (and bikes) that turned up. Although the front car park wasn't as full as I've seen it, I have never seen so many on the track. Even as I was walking down the straight, more and more cars were arriving and that was before going back the other way where cars were lined up around and beyond the s-bend. The paddock was also almost completely full as well.
Personally, I think it was one of the best turnouts I have seen and considering it was a cold, crisp March Sunday morning, it was fantastic.
What struck me was the number of truly awesome machines. Now awesome is a word that is a little overused, especially by our colonial cousins over the pond, but in this case it is apt. Remember, this is a free event, open to everyone and yet people come from far and wide in their, often irreplaceable, pride and joy, park them up, leave them open and let everyone look, touch (with permission of course) and admire them. I don't even think about locking the Wedge and the roof stayed down the entire time I was there.
So a massive, massive thanks to everyone who makes an event like Sunday the best of British.

Saw your wedge, looked great.
Also had a great morning, I wasn't surprised by the numbers as it was such a great day and the first one of the season! Lots of lovely kit around, highlight being the 250 SWB, the Miura and the Enzo. Strangely I also saw another Miura and another 250 SWB later in the day, nothing to do with Goodwood!
Hoping to make the April one too.

Who's mithering. I just thought it was odd that they'd rather have some non descript POS in the off circuit parking, rather than a very distinctive car with a GRRC sticker, and 2 stickers advertising the FOS and the revival, prominently displayed in the windows. It's no skin off my nose, in the end I had as good a day as ever and I got to book my Kinrara tickets without having to mess around with online ordering or phoning people.Get over it!

Personally I think the marshalls tend to get it right and they have a tough enough job dealing with the volume of cars rather than doffing their caps to everyone who believes their car is worthy enough to park somewhere "on site".

If it's not "on theme" and not a GRRC event then why are you bothered about where you park or where others do?
I couldn't of given a st where I parked. The point I was commenting was that I was waved past whilst a POS in front and another POS behind weren't, the off circuit on site parking wasn't full I wasn't in a queue and I was there reasonably early. I wasn't complaining just commenting that it was an odd call. Edited by Syndrome on Monday 8th March 13:32

The simplest thing is get there early!! We got there at 7.45, drove straight in
Strange, I was told the gates didn't even open until 8am but when I did arrive bang on 8 both sides of the track in front of the pits were full, to get that many cars in I'd imagine the gates must have opened around 7:30... Gassing Station | Goodwood Events | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
