4 days and 100 miles so far this week... Nice today, not so nice on last Tuesday. 30mph gusts were a killer.

My legs aren't too bad, although my knees are starting to feel it. I do seem to be getting slower. I'm blaming that on needing a rest. I have however found a number of mostly off road, or country road routes. 1 mile further, but so much nicer, and that extra mile is an extra mile of fitness each way.

Cracking day, late start, half term, quiet roads...perfect

Left home with 6 eggs in my bag for lunch, got to work with 0 in tact!! All cracked and leaked over everything in my bag!! Tools, wallet, keys and my other food all covered in egg!! What a knob I was! Normally I have the rucksack on my back and they don't break, today I put them on my rack and it was a very bumpy ride!

Great to be back on the road after a few weeks off. Legs are feeling the pain a bit though.

Just started riding to work. Yesterday was the first day and was a little nervous through London however seem to be getting better.

It's difficult to use it for training however, were i would generally pedal with some effort, with stop-start really difficult to get any kind of rythem going.

I wonder if any of the summer riders have managed it today - it was VERY wet this morning.

I'm glad I haven't taken off my mudguards!

Yup, it was pretty grim this morning, but it is looking nicer now, so planning my long route home.

The long route home was fun on Friday, until I clipped the edge of a bridge with my back wheel and fell into a muddy stream.

So recently started cycling to work - its 31 miles each way (West London to the Dartford crossing basically) - cycled in this morning on the promise the weather was going to cheer up - currently looking like a rather severe headwind, going to be rather interesting.

My first commute into work today since I broke my ankle in august last year.

im wayyy off the pace and my legs just don't seem to have any power or stamina frown

25miles in
before 1hr 20 ( https://www.strava.com/activities/175159488 )
today 1hr 36 ( https://www.strava.com/activities/316551679 )

25miles home
before 1:23 ( https://www.strava.com/activities/175350752 )

i managed to achieve absolutely nothing on strava and its really disheartening.

I wonder how long it will take to get back to where i was frown

Go to map my ride , there are far fewer people on there ,so be a whale in a small pond.It wont make you any quicker but I always feel very inadequate on Strava. Map my ride rewards the frequency that you complete the segment as well as speed, so on a commute you are in with a chance of being KOM.

I know it is only a short lived thing - probably back to the waterproofs on Monday - but today was a really nice day to cycle in. I even took my time on the second half, enjoying the sunshine!

Perfect temperature this morning. Still wore the thicker jersey as the pcket is really useful for easy access to train ticket and building pass smile

Nothing that exciting on the ride, but I did swear at a pedestrian for looking at me and then deciding to cross the road anyway. Happens in London a lot , but on this occasion I did have to grab a bit of brake. Us cyclist types are generally ok, if we can sail past the suicidal pedestrians, but we get angered if we have to apply brakes wink

Passed my probation at work yesterday, so I shall be signing up to the CTW work scheme and ordering a a custom Brompton. I'd happily order off the shelf, but Evans aren't showing any S3Ls on their web site anymore frown

Bit bored at work today so made some quick calculations.

I've worked here since Oct 11, which is 1331 days ago.

In that time there has been 382 weekend days

I've had 77 days holiday

I've had 10 days paternity

There has been 30 Bank Holidays

Thus I could have ridden to work 832 times.

I've actually ridden 484 times, or 58% of the time. Very nearly 3 days a week for 3.66 years.

This doesn't include sick days as I don't know how many I've had. I think maybe 10?

My actual commute if I just ride to and from work is 21 miles so I've ridden 10164 miles just commuting.

What about you? How often do you actually commute?

Told you I was bored.

This year I have mostly cycled in on one bike - my single speed bike - which Strava tells me I have done 801.2km. In total I appear to have done 911km this year, but that does include a couple of rides at the weekend. I haven't done much other cycling this year as it has been too wet!

My daily rides are 3.8km, 3.5km and 3.8km, giving me a total of 11.1km per day (not a lot, to be honest, I occasionally do a longer ride home). Giving that as an average, I have ridden to work just over 72 days this year. I don't always come in to work, but if I do, I do it on my bike!

How do you know how many days you've actually ridden? Either way, now calculate your savings smile

I generally only don't cycle when I'm going somewhere after work that's a long way from the office so I can't come back for my bike after it so it probably averages out at 4.something days per week. It's only 8 miles each way though.

I've created a private segment on the road to work. Strava tells me I've ridden that segment 484 times.

At a guess, 10164 miles @ 25mpg (at an average of 1.20 per ltr) works out about £2212.

I have several spreadsheets for calculating money saving and mileage on bikes.

Only started this job in March, but I've been using a folding bike since the middle of March top get to the station and then to the office from Euston.

So far, I have saved £161 instead of using the Tube and cycled approximately 309 miles.

At my last company I saved just over £1000 and the company before that was £200. Only did a few months commuting by bike there. I had a company car at the time, so the saving was only £1.50 a day in fuel.

I quite enjoy entering data into my money saving spreadsheet. I've only got 15 commuting days till my folding bike has paid for its self. After that its just another 10 days of commuting and it will have covered the servicing costs smile If I cycled everyday in the month, I could save £92 per month, but most of time, that isn't practical. I usually manage 3 to 4 days a weeek.

May was a disappointing month, as I was suffering with Gout and I could barely get on a normal shoe, let along my cycling shoes, so I lost two weeks and only saved £32 over the month.

In 2014 I managed to commute 75% of days in the office by bike.

So far in 2015 I'm up to 88%. I can't remember a day this year when I just couldn't be bothered to cycle in. Any missed days have been to do with mechanical issues or after work or weekend commitments making it inconvenient or impractical. I also think I've put less than £150 on the oyster this year.

Only a 15 mile round trip but It's a good £5 per day back to the bike maintenance/replacement fund.
