Went to ride the 24 miles each way to work this morning as it was set to be the nicest day of the year so far... Putting shoes on at 0620 and snapped a buckle, typical. Only bought the shoes* on Saturday and just a 22 mile ride on them so far. So ended up going in with my car share. Got out of work just in time to get to the shop I got the shoes from after work and got a replacement pair, hopefully they'll prove sturdier tomorrow morning.

  • FLR F-65s, if anyone's wondering. Very comfy so far.

Something like 1h23 in and 1h33 back, starting to improve now. 1700ft climbing going in, 2000 coming back IIRC. Haven't done it more than twice in a week yet, it's a nice alternative to car share occasionally though and saves getting out for a ride once I'm home. What are your times like?

Agreed. Felt like my batteries were flat today, couldn't keep any sort of decent speed.

Also, why is it so cold? Base layer, Jacket and wind proof shell, plus knee warmers in the mornings. In June.

It was really warm where I am yesterday and today's hopefully going to be the same!

I must apologise for the wind this year. I own a boat, but it is currently in storage due to having had twins not too long ago. Ever since it went into the barn it has been howling! It will come out again next year, so expect a flat calm summer in 2016.

My trip East last night was depressingly slow into the wind... made the most of it this morning though and shaved another 2 mins off my PB to work.

An amazing thing happened yesterday. The wind had picked up during the day and I actually had a strong tail wind the whole way back.

Ran home yesterday, reminding me why I cycle. Why does anyone run for fun? It's bloody awful.

Tonight looks like a cracking evening, can't wait to get out there.
I ran home too, felt it this morning on the bike!

I trundled in on my cyclocross/pub/shopping bike with a heavy pannier this morning. Lovely weather, but it was like riding through treacle compared with the road bike.

The BB is kaput, but it felt as if there was drag from somewhere else too. I need to check the wheel bearings. Giving it a wash might help too.

Cycled in for the 3rd time this week. It's the first week I have cycled in 3 times so legs felt a little heavy, it's only 9 miles each way but I can feel myself getting better.

Started using Strava this week, I am amazed how competitive it has made me, I am only on a heavy old mountain bike so will never be high up but it has already got me thinking about a decent road bike.

Been on my Brompton again - it's been 6 months or so since I have ridden it, had a new wheel built and put it on last night.

I think it will take me a while to get used to it again! I've been on a single speed since Christmas, now the gears all feel really low so I may pop out to the bike shop at lunchtime to see if I can get a 13t chain wheel instead of the 14t I am currently on. That said, though, apart from losing my pump and having to go back and get it, it did feel good even if it is a 4 year old bike!

Bloody fast this morning. 19.6mph average in versus a typical speed of about 17mph. I think last nights TT effort loosened my legs off. They hurt though.

2 x Weetabix and a banana - looking forward to the kitkat in my desk drawer.

Wind been doing my nut in! last night, had a huge load on the panniers (kids toys/shoes/rucksack/food for dinner) Managed to get an ok time home but was riding hard into the wind. This morning cream crackered, finished off my legs last night getting a 17mph av on a pig iron mtb across gravel and road.

Aiming to commute every day this week, which is a rare occurrence!

Anyone else seeing loads of riders out on the sunny rides home, tricked into heading out by the sun then getting hammered by the headwind!

Not bad for Thursday legs on very little sleep (damn kids!) I'm targetting the 45mins before the year is out, but I think that will require a tail wind on a Monday morning.

Under 1 hour in the proper Hollywood style! Noice.

First time on the bike this week in *ahem* 5 weeks. Work and wife have been put first for the past month.

Fortunately now in a position where I do not have to choose again...and my god. The drop off in fitness is staggering.

Struggling to get anywhere at the moment. Remembering how I was going 5 weeks ago now, and the wheezing mess I am at the moment is a horrible feeling.

Lots of work to do.
