My first cold commute of the season this morning.

5 degC and misty. Brrr.
I was too cold this morning. Numb fingers by the time I got to work and no real need to shower. Time for winter gear I think.
With two layers, my body was just about fine for the short 10 mile route through the mist, but my toes were cold by the end.

The Aldi winter gloves were the right choice for this morning. I'll wear my summer gloves on the way home.

Body/arms were fine, with two layers and long sleaves. Legs were freezing with just cycling shorts on and fingerless gloves were not a good idea.

My legs felt fine in knee warmers and lycra shorts, but thin long socks weren't up to the job for my feet today.

Well that's 5 consecutive days of commuting done and dusted. I'm not quite sure how I've managed to do those 109 miles this week after doing the London to Brighton off road ride last Saturday! I have eaten a LOT of food this week to fuel it though.

This weather is fantastic, ridden to work and back 4 times this week which must be a record, I can't find any excuse not to when its like that. I probably don't get up quite early enough but the mist and deer in Richmond Park are producing some wonderful pictures at the minute -

That's awesome. I ride through the Warwickshire countryside to work and have posted a few beauty shots here and there to show people that cycling to work is a good thing.

In contrast to this morning, this afternoon it was gloriously sunny and warm for my extended 35Km ride home

Yep, lovely. And only a few miles from the madness of Central London.

Yeah I cycled through it on Saturday at the start of London to Brighton. It was great. The dear jumped out in front of us though!

I did what for me a reasonably long and hilly sportive yesterday so my legs were far from fresh. Particularly after i had a sports massage that nearly made me cry. So my commute today was quite simply embarrassing. So guy passed me on the road riding a 29er. I dont think i've ever ridden slower to work (in moving time terms) in fact! Thoroughly looking forward to the ride home now biggrin

Finally got my m10 fine tap and helicoils from amazon today, and repaired my threaded derailleur hanger; I even got away with not having to drill before tapping due to the ALU frame. Now just waiting for my threadless bb so I can ignore my threaded bracket, and I'll be back on the road again!

I love my MTB but it is a rubbish and slow commuter! Buzzing all my energy away with those gnarly knobblies ha!

Reasonable ride in although had a brush with a couple of buses who were adamant that they didn't want the cyclists filtering through... Still, dry! Bonus that my Castelli Diluvio Gloves and Overshoes have turned up today as well

It was dry when I left, it certainly wasn't after about 10 mins.

Blimey had a few lorries and busses take their time behind me and be really patient, makes a change. Poor buggers, I was grinding up a steep hill on the single speed , was like stirring treacle!

Then the rain started

No mudguards and lots of farm traffic and back lanes: I got to work looking very brown, bar my bum thanks to an ass saver!

Got as far as the station and found no trains were going my way - somebody had fallen in front of a train ... Had a wonder about cycling all the way in (legs said no) and wondered about going via Manchester - decided to go home and drive in.

Shame, looks like a nice day to be on my bike!

Start of this year, I set a goal of 2,000 miles bike commuting.

Computer when I rolled into the car park this morning: 2004.

And I got in before the rain started. Brilliant.

30mph into a slippery bend near my house...st a car in middle of road....turn in more....bang straight on the floor, bike sliding off in distance

What a nob I was, way too fast into a bend with crap over inflated tyres on very slippery roads... car driver stopped came over whilst I was cleaning off the blood and goes "THATTLL TEACH YOU TO SLOW fkIN DOWN" ! I told him he was correct, thanked him for his advice and he just stared at me! A few people came out houses due to the noise of the bike hitting the deck and asked if I wAS ok.

Luckily as it was a steel single speed, bike seems ok, wheels were a bit buckled already. Lycra took a scrapeing, but seems ok. Best of all I fell on the pocket I usually keep my phone, for the first time ever I had it in the other side pocket so it didn't smash!

Only minor cuts or bruises, landed on my pelvis, and thigh, strongest part of my body so didn't hurt at all, bar a bruised wrist, which I could easily of broken if I stuck it out to stop the fall

Got home and the missues was angry at me for being late for dinner (hence the rush home) I couldn't even tell her I fell off , so sat at the dinner table trying to stop the blood running out of my sleeve!

All good today

Glad it wasn't any more serious for you or phone, and I know the grief that can come at home for "being late", however the cause, so you have my sympathies!

Cheers

On the one hand I was unlucky, on the other I was VERY lucky not to damage myself or have to replace any expensive broken bike parts or phone! Going to take it as a blessing and a lesson to slow down when wet , I think the last week of dry weather made me forget how slippery things can get!

Ride safe guys (and girls)

First commute in eight weeks due to holidays, working locations and an attempt to boost swimming and running.

Following wind all the way in but legs were rubbish.

On the upside I wasn't held up by all the roadies clipping in and setting off from the lights in 96th gear as I was as slow as them for once.

Nice gentle ride in this morning as I've been training really hard lately and needed a gentle one.

Pretty chilly, my garmin had it at 3.5deg Celsius at one point! Base Layer, Jersey plus thin Gilet and thick 3/4 lengths and..... Winter overshoes (gripgrab Arctic!) which kept my feet nice and warm.

First ride out since getting new inner and outer gear cables and bugger me has it made a difference, so smooth and there is such little resistance shifting gear, especially going from the small to large chain ring.
