Depends what kind of mapping you need. The Garmin 200 allows you to upload routes pre-ride, which you follow on screen via a breadcrumb trail. Very simple yet very effective. Got me from Blackpool to Paris OK!
Uploading your recorded routes to Strava is just a case of plugging into your computer via the USB cable and using the plugin on the Strava site.
You can toggle the screen while riding to show current and average speed in addition to route and distance remaining etc.
Big thumbs up from me.

200 = basic screen, can point you in directino you need to go but no "maps". No ANT+ accessories
500 = same as 200, but can link with ANT+ stuff giving Heart Rate (HRM), cadence, wheel speed sensor and power meter if you have one. same screen and same "give direction" ability.
800 = full colour screen, full maps (like a TomTom) and full ANT+ compatibility.
Personally I went for the 500 as I rarely cycle where I do not know. The cost, of course, goes up throught he models.
For all models you simply plug into PC and upload to strava - identical result, only differenec is the amount of data (i.e. no Heart Rate on 200)

Are maps on the 800 an additional cost or once you've bought the unit, is that all in? I do most of my riding around the Surrey Hills, Bristol/Bath and am taking the bike to Majorca next year so maps would be useful but if it's going to cost me extra to keep updating maps or buying additional maps, I may not bother.
I've just got the 800 with 50:000 maps, had my first ride with it today, really happy with it. Takes a while to set it up how you want it but once it's sorted it's awesome. I've got a discount code for wiggle if your interested, I also get an extra 12% for spending so much!! I got it for £370 with a cover and a heart rate monitor. If you want to get one pm me and we can try and sort it out so you get my discounts.

Buy the basic 800 unit and download free worldwide routable maps from herehttp://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garm...
You can run multiple maps on a single micro SD card, just rename the maps so that the one you want to use is called gmapsupp.img
Not sure if anyone wants a 500, but there is one on BR: http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40...
(no connection with me -just browsing whilst swmbo is out!)

1) Do you want to know where you've been and how far/fast your going? Edge 200
2) As per (1), plus how hard you're going (HRM, cadance, power)? Edge 500.
3) As per (1) + (2), plus knowing where you are? Edge 800.
The Edge 800 is a *very* nice piece of kit. Maps, colour touchscreen etc. However, it's rather expensive (both to buy, and have bounce down the road!). I've an Edge 500 and rely on road signs

I paid just under £300 for my 800 with Europe wide maps, heart rate monitor and cadence... from Halfords.Sat Navs make good Chrimbo presents so the deals may no longer be on but British Cycling membership gives you 10% off any Halfords price.
