It'll be like that old Lenny Henry sketch. People will be waking up as you ride past their houses thinking it's morning biggrin

You wont have to wait long, the want is strong.... Just ordered these though Come from the UK and £34 all in for two. Thinking of ordering two of those red ones from my post above to go with them.
That double lens unit, but from a UK seller for £31.39 (same seller as in tuffer's link above) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-5000Lm-2x-CREE-XML...
Yes, they are available cheaper outside the UK, but I like the idea of a UK seller and UK postage timescales. Have you received your order yet, tuffer?

For Disney fans everywhere - make your bike look like 'WALL-E' (or maybe "Johnny Five")
Scheduled for delivery on Friday, I also found that double head unit from a UK seller, think I even saw a similar X2 deal so was thinking a Black-5000Lm-2x-CREE-XML-U2-LED plus a CREE XM-L XML T6 on each bike and maybe a Cree Q5 as a head torch should do the trick smile

Some pics of my ebay special lights as requested - one with the wide angle lens fitted, one standard. Makes me REALLY want a new bike with shifters with rear exit cables! The 2008 Tiagra cables don't half cast a shadow across my path! Not great pics, as they're taken on an iphone, so no control over ISO or shutter speed etc.

Cheers Andy for the pics

I purchased one of the lights, came in 5 days (pretty good for free del)

Impressed so far, very bright, seems well made (for price)

Where cable joins battery seems a week point, but amazing value for £17

My ebay T6 turned up yesterday and I have to say I'm impressed so far, although it has yet to get a real world workout. Will have to get another to even up the bikes looks (OCD much biglaugh)

I cannot work out for the life of me how to get the headband to stay on my lid though. No matter what I try it always pings off. Mind you even wearing the band just on my head its tight, so thinking it might just be to small for my large bonce.

I also found (from China) this bad boy... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trustfire-9000Lm-7x-CREE...

Overkill, anyone?? Claimed output is 9,000lm, so a pair of them up front should prevent any risk of a 'SMIDSY'.
I'd say its pointless.

The 3x T6 I have is not much better than the single in the same lens. Splitting the reflector up like that seriously reduces the output and the only option is go bigger, not more power IMO.

Seriously considering the Fluxient now as the Chinese ones I have just don't have the battery life.

I bought one of these from wiggle earlier in the year when they had a sale on, I paid £3.40:

Sounds like we have the same or similar light.

The triple is brighter than a single, but not by as much as I'd expected

Sorry if it's already been posted, but.....

It appears we have loads of options of cheap, silly bright front lights, but not a lot of options when it comes to backs.

Has anyone found a cheap alternative the MajicShine MJ-818 that can be used with the rechargeable battery it seems everyone already has.

From earlier in the thread... here:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

... I said I'd try and clarify how I have mounted the light. And I have been asked by S6PNJ. Many apologies for my delay in answering - PH mail going to the wrong mailbox which is overloaded with work rubbish...

Anyway, here are some clarification pics:

Hope they make sense.

Whilst we are on mounting!

I mounted my 2 x Crees last night, put the batteries in a water bottle , removed the top valve and used velcro patchgrip to hold the cables.

The bottle was the cheapest they had in Halfrauds (in case it didn't work) and turns out the best, as the two batteries sit on top of each other perfectly without needing further padding or anything to hold them in place. I can also use the bottle to hold the excess cable, as well as being water resistant for the batteries.

Tried it on the ride this morning works well and can be swapped between bikes in a couple of minutes.

It does weigh a bit though, but I can handle it as am usually carrying a heavy rucksack

No problems and many thanks - sadly I can't see the pics at the moment as work is filtering them but I'll take a look tonight once I'm on an unrestricted internet feed.

I ended up with the magicshine. Very impressed with it. Puts out a hell of a lot of light! :-)

Giving some thought to a fibre flare for the chainstay as well.

REAR LIGHTS

Well done to whoever recommended the rear lights from Planet X at £4.99. They are stunningly bright - anything brighter would be dangerous in my opinion and for £4.99, you can't really go wrong.

I expect they are a lot less bright than the magicshine tbh on paper. We will see but I expect to use them as as secondary / backup lights.
I've ordered a pair for me and a pair for the gf when I ordered the winter bundle. Pics will follow.
There's a video on YouTube of someone with two of them, they look rather effective.

Also grabbed one of the cheap 5led lights, will see if its any good. I expect it will go to my nephew :-)

The PX Phaart light is indeed good (though they're usually only a couple of quid). The mounting is dire though, mine worked loose and I lost the light. Reinforce with a cable tie.

I bought this lot as back up lights, each has 2 LEDs flash strobe or steady, and 2 x CR2032 batteries.
Under £4 the lot delivered from Hong Kong (12 days) hehe

I currently have a Smart Lunar 35lux, which is a decent commuting light, but I would like something else to go with it. I dont want something with cables and an external battery, but something like a flashlight which I can attach to helmet/bars.

Dont want to spend much, so cheaper the better. Is Cree XM-L U2 the one to go for? Of those i've seen, the runtimes dont seem to be too long.

I stand corrected, they aren't quite as bright as the magicshine rear but damn are they effective for 1/6 the price. A pair of them are now my backup rear lights

I trust everyone here points their lights in the right direction.

I was dazzled by three bikes carrying flamethrowers last night as they followed an oncoming van and appeared suddenly as the van turned off.

Bloody dangerous.

But you did see them :-)

Seriously though tilting lights downwards slightly gives reflection off the pavement the moment its slightly damp - which helps visibility.

Some lights (ie the only ones worth having IMHO) are rated at "do not look into with remaining unblinded eyeball" and tbh blinding people unintentionally isn't going to help anyone.

On a serious note I was out on a club ride last night and one of the riders rear lights were almost totally obscured by his epms. Placement and angle counts
