Palace to Palace
Discussion
Anyone on here doing the Palace to palace next Sunday (14th)?

i am doing it as part of the Hewlett Packard team, we normally raise about £32,000 each year, but it will be my first year taking part.
Not done a charity ride like this before and certainly not done 45 miles on my MTB. I have switched to Slick tyres and up to 35 miles in training, which feels OK
The main issue is that our Team start time is 07:46!! which makes getting there quite tricky, so I plan to drive to Windsor and dump the car, then cycle to Slough Railway station and get the train to Paddington

Are the trains running that early on Sunday morning?I'm doing it in a team and we've got a coach taking us and the bikes from TVP to the start line for our start time 10mins after you.
Here is the route from last year. http://app.strava.com/segments/2393826
I considered doing this, also as part of the HP team but it's the good Lady's Birthday and it's a fair trek down from Sheffield so have put it off for this year.
I cycle in to the office on my MTB and 1.5" slicks at 80psi and it makes a world of difference, ok I'm no Bradley or Sir Chris but I can do the 10 mile commute in just under 40 minutes whilst with low pressure knoblies it took me an hour, you'll be fine with the MTB and slicks I'm sure, especially with those training distances

In previous years the train was rammed with bikes by the time it got to Slough. Try to get to Reading or Maidenhead if you can.. Enjoy!http://www.princes-trust.org.uk/support_us/events/...

Did a quick 10 miler as my last training ride this evening, I have exceeded my fundraising target and last tuime i looked HP were in 3rd place in the Fundraising table, we will hopefully hit our team target of £40,000
Top work on the fundraising fella! Good luck for the ride.Great fun, although a bit cold to start (especially riding from Windsor to Slough Station at 6:30 this morning in the fog!)
The train was hell with about 80 bikes on board, I got wedged between 2 bikes and had an old lady leaning against me inappropriately... :¬O
Did it in 3 hours 9 minutes riding time, about 3 hrs 30 mins elapsed as I stopped at the first watering point for the toilet, missed the second stop and then stopped at the third (34 miles) to top my water bottles up. I managed an average if 14.3mph!

Bike behaved itself, which I was really pleased with as it is a self-build.
The thing I found odd was that the roadies would pile past me on the flat and then I would whip past them up the hills...
