If you're interested, the bit in red is the 2nd photo - it's not that easy to find if you've not been that way before. The top comes out on long Furlong & you can turn left for High Salvington & back to Worthing or right & that will bring you out at the A280, where you can cross the road (carefully!) & carry on up to the SDW or towards Angmering park.

Thanks. I will check that out next time i am in the area biggrin

Sure, not to hijack the thread too much, you turn into Wyevales & take the road to the right, past a bungalow uphill & turning left. The entrance to the trail is an unmade road on your right, past three cottages, the last of which is fire dmaged & covered in scaffolding & the trail is obvious from there. Enjoy.

Just checked Strava & my fastest is apparently 1:37. I'm clearly not trying hard enough although it told me I hit 34mph last week!! Usually, I try to climb it for the fitness, but it is huge fun to fly down, I find the secret of the concrete steps is to hit them on the right side, pointing left so you don't have to give it much steering input on the way out. Besides, the gullys down the bottom are way scarier!

I've never climbed it, now that would be a test!

The gullys are best taken with your eyes closed smile

No 'relive' from back then. But I don't think we shared much common ground really - just the road back from Freshwater to Stackpole via the Castlemartin entrance. My route from Strava... https://www.strava.com/activities/343306285 ...and it was quite a late one.

Yeah, not much overlap, there are plenty of nice roads around there to play on though. I need to explore a little more next time I'm down

Ta daaaahhhhh......correct thumbup

The bd hill is known as 'Sullington Lane Buster'. It's an absolute shocker and when it's been wet is deep in cow poo and other detritus making the climb difficult.

From the bottom to the top takes me about 8 minutes of bloody hard graft. Simon from the local bike shop has done it in 4.28 frown

It's an absolute git of a climb yes

I then shot along towards Amberley (into wind the entire ride) going down the lovely steep grass hill and back via back roads to West Chiltington and finally home outside Ashington.

Good ride! It is a sod. The psychology of it I think is your head tells you it'll ease off when you pop out of the tree cover, but it doesn't, it just keeps going relentlessly. It was the only part of that 20 mile charity ride I was wary of, as I knew it was coming two minutes after the start & I'd be hitting it cold.

I managed bottom to top without a stop today and I'm sure it was helped by my new clipless shoes and pedals yes

Still a novice at this riding lark, I have used clipless on my road bike for some time and have only just gone over on my MTB.

They seem to have made a massive positive difference and I should have gone clipless immediately yes

I've only managed the Rogers lane in one go once. I usually have to stop by the concrete steps for a breather. Kind of like the idea of clipless but I'm so flaky I've had reason to be grateful for being able to bail out at short notice. hehe

Is that your new bike?
If not what did you decide on?

It's a Specialized that they had lying around from a previous guide who left earlier this year so I bought it cheap for my Death Road bike as it's going to live a hard life plus I'm ordering a Santa Cruz Tallboy through the company for some of the more technical rides plus fun rides on my days off.

It's pretty basic but I like it and I can get it down Death Road quicker than the clients can get down there on their monster truck Konas.
