1st ride out for about 6 weeks and after eating and drinking my own body weight most days over Christmas the Downs took no prisoners hehe

26 miles of which most were spent knee deep in ste and muddy water, that was when I wasn’t fighting the wind whilst being thrown off my bike because of the extremely slippery chalk smile

Home on the outskirts of Ashington down to the A24 and then up the bd of a gravel track leading to Cissbury Ring

From Cissbury across Long Furlong heading towards Amberley. I have never used so much energy cycling across muddy damp stty fields heading towards the top of Chanctonbury. It was at various points absolutely sole destroying to the point of WTF am I doing here!

Down towards Amberley taking ‘like space hoppers’ very carefully. Those who know that little hill know it’s fast, very fast and my best time to date is 9 seconds, today...........21 and that felt every bit as fast as 9!

Home after 26 miles of which about 20 were spent absolutely peddling my little legs away.

I’m sitting here now having also taken the dog for a walk this afternoon and boy do I know I went out for a ride this morning hehe

Still, bloody good fun eh thumbup

I spent the afternoon sinking an agreeable glass of Malbec round my mate's in Beeding! Decided to keep off the downs for a week or three until it dries out a bit, doing a few urban cowboy rides around town instead. The views aren't the same but at least I'm not up to my axles in mud!

Quite possibly a better option given the state of them currently.

I’m due to go on the Southdowns shop first Wednesday ride next week.......not so sure at the moment.

It’s not only wet, muddy, slippery, cold (ish) at the moment so try throwing in darkness just to really fk things up hehe

Christmas Eve ride out with my FB cycling buddies.

Discovered this weir in a place I’ve ridden past at least 100 times, not sure how I’ve not noticed it before.

If you look closely, there’s a heron stalking the bankside for some lunch...

Is, that Burton, Rossett?

It is, just after the railway crossing and passing under the A483 before turning towards Burton Green.

I stopped there today, it was a raging torrent and no resident heron to be seen!

I live up the hill in Penyffordd.

Are you local?

Used to be, many years ago, my parents live a few hundred yards from there. I keep trying to take my bike up when visiting for a ride out but I never have the space in the car. Always fancied trying Hope ‘mountain’.

First ride of the year today, proper bleak. Waited for the rain to stop, which it did, but then the wind blew up. And then it rained again so instead of just getting wet I got the full spin ‘n’ rinse treatment.

Early morning on a trail I know well - steep, rocky climb but at 0630 was into the sun so couldn’t see and nearly went a cropper whilst doing about 8kmh...

Back on the Mountain Bike for the first time this year. A freezing cold but blue-skied blast around Cannock's Dog and Monkey trails. No speed records set but managed to get round in one piece with only a couple of hairy moments with ice. Fun!

That looks like a much more rideable stretch of the Ridgeway than the bit near Chilton that we tried the other day - how much of it is there with that kind of surface?

Between Hackpen and Blowingstone is easy enough on a road bike. To Avebury it is muddy and rutted, the same from Blowingstone although I haven't ventured further east yet.

Lady Canning’s by Lewis Craik, on Flickr

I usually ride on my own, so it is rare to have a photo of me riding. Its a shame it looks like I've got some serious understeer though...
