Not quite what I expected frown

However, I’m pleased your pleased and I’m pleased I managed to get my new bike for just over £2k

Don’t ask how, but your write up (which is good, thanks), does make me feel a bit better wink
Ahh, well a carbon Stumpjumper for just over £2k is brilliant value for money! biggrin That does change things a bit wink

I rode the expert 2018 29er bike, I rated it 9/10 at the MBR demo day, cracking bike and the fox forks were lovely, think it has the performance versions. The spectral I rated at 10/10, awesome bike. The Cube... well, I suppose it's 11/10. biggrin

My bike has 2018 revelations and riding the fox 36 factory forks at the weekend has ruined them for me laughbanghead they're still great forks but once you had a taste of the top end it's hard to go back to regular level laugh
Mine is 29 which I find a better size than 27.

As a relative newbie to the sport I would probably be lost on a better set of forks (much like I am on my Mavic carbon wheels on my Cube road and MTB), the Stumpjumper is still a massive upgrade to the Reaction GTC Race (which I still rate as a great hardtail btw) albeit I find I’m currently slower up hills but overall it’s a much better ride yes

Edited to add, nice Aprilia wink

Yeah I'm also more of a beginner, I used to mountain bike loads in my late teens/early twenties, now 15 years later I've decided to get back into it as riding motorbikes through winter isn't fun, and getting covered in mud is! biggrin I went for a Vitus Escarpe 27.5 as I just couldn't justify spending £2500-3k on effectively a 'first mtb' but I'm always eyeing up the next upgrade biggrin A lot of the old skills are coming back, just not the fitness! On the downhill sections I'm getting faster and more confident week by week.

I thought I'd prefer 29 wheels being tall and with the extra rollover/efficiency but with every 29er I tried I preferred the equivalent 27.5 much more, all personal preference though.

I was initially looking at a hardtail but at my age and fitness level a FS bike, although heaver, lets me ride far further and longer than a hardtail would.

And cheers thumbup

Ride with Owen by Lewis Craik, on Flickr

First ride with my little boy! It was only a few hundred metres on the track behind the house, but we were both on bikes, so I'm classing it as a ride!

Then yesterday I had the day off, so left my son with his grandparents and went for a ride from their house in Chipping Norton:

Might not look like much, but that's my bike behind my desk at work. One of my targets when I bought a road bike (to supplement my MTB) was to commute to work once a week through the summer. Winchester to Basingstoke, 24 miles each way. Just need to find the energy at 6pm this evening to ride home smile

Nice Dolomite - good to see them getting ridden rather than hung on walls.

Not strictly my ride today, but the AMGEN Tour of California had a 21 mile time trial in my town today using quite a few miles of my weekly route. Will be interested to see the Strava times this weekend! Took a walk downtown lunch time to watch for a bit.

Went out on the road bike yesterday evening, it turned into a penny farthing at some point along the way.

Richmond Park this morning. The photo is nice but the video is nicer https://www.instagram.com/p/Bi6WiFqB3Oq/?taken-by=...

Properly cold at 5am this morning (3C) but made worthwhile by the joy that is summer mornings in the park before the gates open to traffic. If you're riding in London this is an experience you have to try. Richmond Park is so different before 7am.

Relaxed off roading to work yesterday, caused by a hard training ride the day before. Between Long Furlong and the South Downs Way is a hill called Blackpatch Hill. I can't find a route I'm comfortable to use, the path on the map starts at a farm, but when you get there there's no bridleway or footpath, but there are a lot of private signs. Might have to try on the way home

Just west of Steyning Bostal, Monarch's Way is well worth a detour

Yesterday morning, really wasn’t in the mood for it and it was cold, about 6C, but I never get bored of this view first thing...

I took a different kind of camera out with me today. An SJ4000 (Clone I think), and it really ddin't render the 4K settings well.

This is 4 mins long if you're intrested, and is about 17 miles worth of Bedfordshire. If you do watch it, bear in mind the camera is over a metre above the ground!

The one ride I don't wear gloves or knee pads I hit the deck. Even more embarrassingly I'd just told my son I'd show him how to ride the pump track.

Tour of the Black Country. 110km and 1200m of effort. Up, down or off road, no middle ground. Bloody hard work, especially Walton Hill.
