In the unusual position of having too much holiday this year, so took yesterday off and headed north towards the M25. I did 10 of the Surrey Hills a few weeks ago, was planning 10 of the North Downs starting at Oxted and heading east.
This is near Handcross, about 25 km in.
The village of Outwood, lovely.
I took a couple of ham sandwiches with me for an early stop, had decided the later stop was going to be a pub stop. Found this delightful place for my sarnies...
Crossing the M25.
This was either Gangers or Tandridge, the climb is through the gap the trees, just in the tree line. I'm used to narrow Sussex lanes, some of these are just as narrow. Meeting cars was interesting.
Looking over the Chalkpit. Definitely the toughest of the seven, although by the end I was so tired I don't think I could rank them properly.
I rode along the top of the ridge and dipped down each climb as I came across it to get an idea of what was in store. It's hard to imagine the M25 is down there less than 2 miles away. I missed the turn for Titsey and White Lane, although I have done them before.
The Cock Inn at Idehill, the much anticipated pub stop. I had an IPA, then two shandies, and an omelette. Cost about an hour off the bike, but was worth it. Although I really struggled to get home, legs just left me on my own. Maybe have to accept a couple of drinks aren't the right thing to do.
Just after Idehill looking south.

Did a 52 mile ride yesterday, by far my biggest (ever?). From Maidstone to Wye (just northeast of Ashford) along the Pilgrims/North downs way. And back again.
Nothing too technical, fire road and some tarmac, average speed of 12mph but wanted to see what I could do, 3500ft of climbing too, several short and sharp climbs. I had the backup of getting a train back at various points along the route but didn't need it. Today was a well earned recovery day!!!!
Nice and dusty too!

Looks like we rode possibly the same place last night. If cameras was panned left it would be more or less your photo.
Edited to add maybe not think you are looking from the opposite direction. The big fire is just the gas power station that’s next to the old coal station.
Mine was taken from the top of Hagbourne hill, between Harwell and Upton just off the A34. The fire was the landfill site over in appleford.Edited to add maybe not think you are looking from the opposite direction. The big fire is just the gas power station that’s next to the old coal station.

Stunning views over the South Downs today
And on my travels pad the entrance to a famous rocks star’s gaff.....2 house points for a correct guess
Could you see the Dark Side of the Moon from there? And on my travels pad the entrance to a famous rocks star’s gaff.....2 house points for a correct guess
DG I recon
How did you know that little snippet of nothingness?
I googled the farm name, as I was sure it was a prog rock star
In the address bar of Chrome it autocompleted to Steele Farm...Gilm*** (removed full name as dont want to give away he might live there)
However when you actually search google with the farm name and above surname, nothing comes up. I have a feeling he has requested that any relevant results have been removed from Google results, but the Autocomplete history remains
Ive also read how he references the farm he lives on in interviews

He’s owned that house for a long time albeit I’m not sure how much time he actually spends there.
I was fortunate once to have a mini-tour, a friend of mine is his land manager and we needed to get something or other, I can’t remember now!
I understand he’s quite a nice chap but I’ve only ever seen him from a distance.

Lovely little whizz down to the coast this morning..........
Worthing
And then along to Littlehampton
For those of you who watch The Inbetweeners, that was the Ice Cream stall where Jay suspected the old lady offered favours to young lads
Past Ford Prison where my favourite piece of aircraft art sits in permanent flight
And then off home via Arundel completing a 45 mile loop, what a lovely ride
