Lovely day riding around the hills around here including the ridgeway, Coome Gibbet, Walbury hill, Whitchurch hill and Streatley.

Took this at the top of Coombe, was a lovely view over the area from up there:

Sounds lovely, would be interested in seeing the route as I'm trying to piece together something including that part of the world

It was a bit challenging on the legs but was a good ride -

The loop into Yattendon was to take in a beer or two at the West Berkshire Brewery ;-)

Some witchcraft mischief going on with sticks and branches. I had one leap up from under the front tyre the other week and it jabbed me in the shin and went right up, under the knee/shin pad. 6" long graze culminating in quite a cut at the top. Thought it was going to stick right in but fortunately avoided it.

Looks good. I live in Wantage and work in Pangbourne, and often drive to the A34 from work. Know the area well. It's really picturesque.

Went up to Macclesfield Forest, did part of the off-road route near the Cat & Fiddle pub, lots of chunky rock and some slippy roots. Then into the forest itself where there is a small but impressive set of trails dug by the locals. Got a bit of beginner jump practice and some small drops in.

Only made the trip out to climb up The Gibbet twice. The second time was so "emotional" that I never went back...

...ETA: It was a much nicer experience the first time out... https://www.strava.com/activities/559425213#135409...

How does it compare to Streatley?

Not sure I really recall how Streatley Hill feels to ride. I just know that Coombe Gibbet has fabulous views, and if you grow a set and turn right up the chalk road to the actual Gibbet, you get even more elevation. There's a village on top of a nearby hill that's really pretty too. My only recollection of Streatley Hill was riding it in very poor weather (roads looking like rivers in places) as part of a REALLY hilly route. Can't remember the name of it but it was a local club route I nicked off the internet...

Coombe is longer so takes a bit more out of the lungs but not quite as steep, Streatley just keeps getting steeper towards the top. So you start at 8-9% which is nice enough then you as you climb it tops out just above 20% according to the garmin.

Much nicer view from the top of Coombe Gibbet than Streatley too

Planned a longer ride this morning but felt flat after about 45mins, so headed to Dee Why Beach and watched this paddleboarder whilst the sun came up...

About 2 mins later the sun was above the horizon...

Weekend in Criccieth, so brought the road bike with me to try a route a mate had suggested.

North via cycleway 8 to Penygroes, then east up the Nantlle Valley, which comes out at Rhyd Ddu.

Down to Beddgelert, then back across country to the campsite.

Nantlle is stunning even with dodgy weather....

I think I may have found the holy grail.....

It’s half way up a punishing hill somewhere east of Athens near Loutraki which on my rental bike was rather ‘interesting’

Ticked off Great Dun Fell a couple of weekends ago. Amazing climb up ‘Britain’s highest road’, took us 48 mins to tackle the 7.5km climb and only 7 mins back down. We got lucky and had brilliant weather for it. Although it was still windy and cold at the top.
