Ticked off Great Dun Fell a couple of weekends ago. Amazing climb up ‘Britain’s highest road’, took us 48 mins to tackle the 7.5km climb and only 7 mins back down. We got lucky and had brilliant weather for it. Although it was still windy and cold at the top.
This is definitely on my list - I was lining up the sportive to do it this year but it got cancelled and "won't be returning in the future!"How hard did you find it? Last person I asked said "leave your brain at the bottom"

Not too bad tbh! There’s a couple of sections where it kicks up to over 20% but these are interspersed with lots of mellower gradients, some flat and even a slight downhill section. It’s traffic free too once you’re passed the gates. How hard did you find it? Last person I asked said "leave your brain at the bottom"

Not sure I really recall how Streatley Hill feels to ride. I just know that Coombe Gibbet has fabulous views, and if you grow a set and turn right up the chalk road to the actual Gibbet, you get even more elevation. There's a village on top of a nearby hill that's really pretty too. My only recollection of Streatley Hill was riding it in very poor weather (roads looking like rivers in places) as part of a REALLY hilly route. Can't remember the name of it but it was a local club route I nicked off the internet...
Coombe is longer so takes a bit more out of the lungs but not quite as steep, Streatley just keeps getting steeper towards the top. So you start at 8-9% which is nice enough then you as you climb it tops out just above 20% according to the garmin.Much nicer view from the top of Coombe Gibbet than Streatley too

I managed to grab a ride in whilst in France, figured I'd give Alpe d'huez a go. A rather tough climb! I managed it in 1hr16min so only 35mins behind the pros.... Was wanting an hour but that wasnt really realistic!
My wife was grand and was playing photographer en route. Only two complaints about the route; the end is poor signed posted and they could tart it up a bit and they had a market in the way of part of the route through Alpe d'huez so lost a minute or so there!

Family cycle ride in Vendée, France.
There are virtually no cars anywhere. The (fantastic) cycle paths are flat and either surfaced or hard graded shale, and they are separated from the roads by planters. Where we have to drive on the roads, the signage clearly gives priority to cyclists and drivers are very respectful of that.
My 10yo daughter is not a keen cyclist but even she enjoys riding around here.
The dog did not. He yelped and barked the entire way to Jard-Sur-Mer and back. Non stop. He won't be coming with us again. He clearly doesn't like it and we've tried bringing him along with us half a dozen times now.

Had a bit of a disaster today. Due to the weather, I decided to sack off my trip to the Elan Valley and fitted a new fork/front wheel onto my hardtail and some other bike fettling in the garage.
When the rain stopped I went to get my hardtail for a shakedown ride. Inexplicably the rear tyre was flat, I couldn't get it to hold pressure, so with limited time remaining, I grabbed my full suss bike. Then at the furthest point from home this happened:

Typically my spare mech hanger was in my other bag, so I had to remove the mech/chain and walk home.

I didn't have a lot of time yesterday, so went to Sandwell Valley, which is just by West Brom. It's only a 2k loop, but made by keen MTBers. There are some good tabletops and rollers to practice jumping, and a few interesting trail features on the way round. Definitely worth the 20min drive!

I need to check out some of these smaller places around Birmingham, although 417 Bike Park is next on my list of localish places to ride!
A familiar track, but not usually by bike.
Wanted to do this a while, so chucked the bike in the motor & did it this wk quiet eve after the Ringmeisters 2 day track day & evening Tf.
Fair play to the Rad am Ring lot, it's not easy, so much up hill!
51mph down foxhole, even was 42 mph into Brunchen
