Yep, they are bloody fantastic, and cheap, I like that. I can light the darkest lane up like midday on a sunny summer day with that lot.

Apologies, haven't been able to post for a while, and this was a walk, not a ride. But every time you hear what you think is a Merlin and then it materialises heading towards you in a beautiful Autumn sky...fk me, that was special

Lovely evening for a ride. Golden hour turned into a decent sunset. Dry trails, short sleeves the only give away it’s mid October is the sun setting before 1830.

It’s a collection of Cree LED lights, bought from Aldi over the last couple of years. The reason for having multiple lights set like that, is so that I can set the inners to flash and the outers to static. I’ve learned that’s more effective than having a single light set to flashing or static. They really are very bright, at least as bright as my car’s headlights. They only cost 15 quid for a front and a rear as well, which is superb VFM.

You can’t have it flashing and steady at the same time though, which is why I have multiple lights. You can’t point a single light in more than one direction either.

Quick spin out with the Club this morning, curtailed early as I have my folks visiting.

This is my favourite spot to stop for a snack, sometimes you can see herons in the weir.

Autumn is well and truly here, although a warm morning for a ride...

My Exposure light has a "daybright" mode which is never "off" at any given point which is very useful. I don't generally see the need for a flashing AND steady front light....a rear I can understand more, but I'm not so sure with a front. I only use flashing during the day, and steady/constant at night. The beam pattern on the Exposure lights is designed to be quite flat and wide (on their road lights, at least) which is why they seem much brighter than their lumen output suggests compared to other lights which just emit light everywhere (not ideal for other road users IMO) and I've never felt the need to have a 2nd front light with my Exposure Strada. Admittedly, it costs a lot more, but I'd personally rather have 1 thing which does the job perfectly well, than several which don't, even if it does cost a bit less. Each to their own though, and it's certainly no bad thing we all like different things smile

Many years of riding multi hundred Km rides at this time of the year has taught me that the multi light, multi mode, approach has worked better than single light single mode. Trial and error, trial being trying all sorts, error being what best results in not getting flattened. It’s results based, and the way I do it now, yields less issues. Yesterday was a case in point, I was out until way after lighting up time, and I was on a street lit section of road, I set all the lights to flash, and the effect was a ripple that looked like something out of close encounters of the third kind. I could see the drivers of the cars emerging from the minors looking twice, that was point proved.

Yesterday was another early start at Stromlo - really can’t recommend the place high enough for anyone passing through. Maps at the start, selected routes according to ability, a sills area, and trails are well marked, which is just as well because even when the car park is parked you might only see a handful of riders on your jaunt. Also great views and lots of kangaroos. But it can be either roasting or freezing - yesterday was 5C, we’re coming into summer...
