Mate loaned his new e-bike. Doggo properly bamboozled as to why he did not have time to scout for squirrels on the climbs like normal. In "E" mode, he'd keep up uphill, but not in "turbo". hehe

Odd sort of machine really. Unbelievable uphill; you can climb stuff that would literally be impossible on an ordinary mtb and it actually makes it a real hoot. However, descending, once you hit the 15mph assistance limit, you have to pedal against the resistance of the motor to go any faster, so it really does have you descending slower in many trails.

It's a heavy beast too, a bd to try to lift the front end over obstacles, but it does mean it jumps and lands with great stability, even if it does kill the normal little jumps and pops in the trail.

Great photos and I really enjoyed the blog. I rode Teide last year (and also named my Strava ride Bang Teide smile) but was early enough in the season to avoid any ice. It really is a stunning place to ride.

And those salty boiled potatoes are delicious.

Great pics from Tenerife! Looks warm and uphill...

Now, I know I post a lot of pics of beaches and sunrises, but that’s just what I see on my usual bike rides. However what struck me about these two was the complete change of colour in just 30 mins. Anyway, was a pleasant pootle...

You're half right. It was Baltic in all three of those pics though. Teide had a fresh dusting of snow and the crater was glazed with black ice. Two of us had a little lie down before we warned the others off it. That white line is where the pedal scraped along the ice that we couldn't previously see.

Couple from the hills on Sunday. Not taken any photos since, but most of it is covered in snow and ice and very, very cold.

Not pics but video. If you need some cycling fantasies on this rainy day this'll do the trick!

Fantasies? All I saw was a nightmare. Some idiot bicycling either in the middle of the lane, or worse, riding along the centre line of the road! Bloody cyclists, bloody Lycra, bloody-well think they own the bloody place, holding up all that bloody traffic, etc, etc, etc...

wink

I have a yearning to take the Brompton to Teide & cycle up the volcano to the cable car base station.....it would almost certainly kill me though.

That'd be awesome. I think it'd be OK on the way up. The descent, not so much.

Up and over the local hill on the road, finishing with a scoot along the fire road and singletrack. Was somewhere over 25C at 0630 and into the 30s by the time I got home. Just thought you’d like to know...

Absolutely filthy.

23mm tyres were perhaps not the correct weapon for me today, but I needed a change from MTBing every weekend so unstrapped my road bike from the turbo trainer and did 40km South of Birmingham. I've signed up for the Velo Birmingham in May, and I'm confident I could roll through 100 miles tomorrow if I needed, but I'd like to actually give it a good go. So the road bike will be seeing more road!

It's 12cm, which is substantial, but the angle of the photo does make it look significantly bigger!

I'm 6'3" with a short torso but long arms and legs, so any smaller makes me feel very upright. I have 10mm of spacers above the stem if I want to raise a bit. It's already an XL frame, so my other option would be a longer stem I suppose.

I'll see how long it lasts when I get back into longer rides, but I've not been uncomfortable on it before.

Ah that's not too bad then. I have a 9cm drop, give or take, but I'm a short arse at only 5ft 5 or 5ft 6....!

Chilli ride out, 1 degree while being icy and muddy, around The Monkey trail at Cannock Chase this morning, a lot of climbs followed by most of the fun stuff being closed off and what's open trashed by the people chilling trees down around there at the moment.
