417 is brilliant mid-week! I've been twice and been the only person on the uplift! Looking forward to taking my 3 year old there in a few weeks for a session on the indoor pump track.
My mate (54 yo) bought body armour and a full face helmet, to go to 417. He had a nasty shoulder injury fairly early in the day, and now all his padding and the full-face lid sit unused in his garage as he's sworn off any such adventures ever again. Me? I've tried a few daft things in my time (an XC Enduro MTB race lap on a 90s steel road bike, "White Lightening" at the Tidworth bike park on a gravel bike, etc) but I feel like I know my limits, and closing in on my 50th birthday I don't think I'll ever be tempted onto any downhill run that requires commitment to "getting air", because I want something rollable that won't lead to certain death if i'm not hitting it fast enough. That said, I massively admire the ability, and cojones, of riders who can make the best use of technical features on reds/blacks. It's just too late for me to learn to ride like that.
