Lovely to see a classic getting used properly. I hated my old road bike up Surrey Hills climbs. Tough going on a bike that weighs about 12 kg and comes with a "low" gear that gets right down to 39x25...
I bought it last year to ride when it was too wet for the mtb, or when I wanted a quick morning ride and it was too dark for trails. So it mostly only gets used in bad weather, not treated very well! Its lowest gear is 42 at the front and 24 at the rear... I did make it up Ranmore common road, and the gradient for the last half mile is 9%, which is my absolute limit!stepaway said:

I got the Fizik X5 Arctica last year and they were super tight, hurt my feet. So I was looking at these, any good?
They are yes, but make sure you get the right size. I bought some Shimano ones off Ebay prior to these, size 44. I'm a UK 10 normally, but the Shimano ones were murder after an hour, even with the smallest thinnest ankle socks. These are a 45, I had two thick pairs of socks this morning, might make one a thin pair in future. Only ridden once in them though, so need a few more weeks to see how they really stack up. Planet X told me in Jan they would NOT get any more 45s this winter, so was surprised when a pair became available on their site!Daveyraveygravey said:

Ah, same size as me, I guess I'll have to wait! Thanks for the info and sorry for derailing this thread.MrBarry123 said:

About to be eaten!Nah, evening is more likely, and Manly has a shark net which, for all its faults, seems to keep the big ones out. You’ll see juvenile sharks swimming in the area in the photo but it’s a very popular swimming spot - there was an organisered ocean swim race there last weekend - that there would be plenty of others for any passing Bronze Whaler to chomp on!
That’s not to say that the first time you see one you don’t blow bubbles at both ends and swim a little bit quicker...

Absolutely terrifying.
First time riding in snow. Entertaining but don’t think I’ll rush out, some very sketchy ice. Only 14 miles at 8mph average, along the north downs way and the woods around Bredhurst. Was going to do a bit more but felt like I was on the verge of falling off and hurting myself so quit while I was ahead. So nice to get out the house though!
