Yep, loads of riders out around me today.
Unfortunately, not me. Got up from the kitchen table this morning after my coffee, and huge twinge in lower back.
Now laid up on as many drugs as I can find, waiting for consultation on Monday - but it's either sciatica or slipped disc...
As an ex rower who's had back problems from how abused my back was in my 20s... You have my absolute sympathy. Awful thing sciatica...just no respite from it. Unfortunately, not me. Got up from the kitchen table this morning after my coffee, and huge twinge in lower back.

Tough being 60kg in a boat of giants... We did well though.
Haven't had anything for nearly 15 years - couple of minor twinges now and then, or pulled muscles. This one 'feels' different.

I'm also an ex-rower - but fked my back way before I hit my 20s!

I'd got as far as nerve root block and was on the list for spinal fusion... Then I happened to speak to an awesome physio at the back care charity. She too was an ex rower and suggested I do the following before going under the knife. Tough being 60kg in a boat of giants... We did well though.

1) buy wobble board (like half a bosu ball on a circular platform) and use it whilst watching TV.
2) thrash up and down local pool (hard at the moment) doing only breast stroke.
3) do lots of dorssl raises and lay flat with your back arched arms straight.
4) get bike fit and raise bar height.
Never needed the op and touch wood it's been good 11 years now. Every now and then I get a twinge which means I've been lax on the wobble board or raises.
I found swimming was best for acute pain.
It was a really bad l4/5 bulging disc with massive referred pain in my leg - couldn't walk at one point.
Hope it sorts itself - worth talking to the charity.
Awesome, thanks Dewey.
Got superb cover via work - back issues bypass all the hassle.
Phone consultation Monday morning, then immediate referral. Last time I used it (pulled muscle in 'mid' back) - consult at 9am, physio appointment at lunch. Repeated weekly for six weeks.
This time, I can just feel it's different. Might well give you a shout once I've got the feedback if that's OK?
