Can one of you please put me out of my misery - I know that road and that view - used to work in Bridgwater and Taunton and traverse the Levels a lot - but I cannot place it. It has been about 20 years though...It's the road from Godney to Glasto.........
I used to have an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of the roads across Somerset - partly related to my job at the time, but mostly anything to avoid the traffic on the A39 and other main roads, esp in the summer when the place gets overrun by camper vans and the like.
Kinda miss it sometimes. But not all the time!
I'm just off the A39 half way between the M5 and Glasto, it's a busy road for sure, but I'm on the levels so miles of very quiet flat country roads, nestled between the Mendips and Quantocks, my perfect cycling country !
Never really cycled around the Levels, but did lots in the area around Bristol, Bath and Mendips, and also Quantocks. Was always fun, esp flat out runs from Lulsgate down the A38 to either to Barrow or to Redhill wearing jeans, t-shirt and a pair of trainers. Lid, what lid? Cheddar and Burrington were also fun!
Had a good ride out in the local woods and with the lower temperatures it wasn't too bad compared to recent times. The snow makes it interesting as well although we didn't get as much as some. Not able to get up to the Surrey Hills at the moment due to the lockdown restrictions etc - not getting into a discussion about that, just don't think driving to Peaslake car park and swamping that village is right at the moment...
A couple from yesterday, and a couple from today. I knew Sunday was going to be a race against the wind/snow/hail/rain, but I wanted to get some riding in.
Some new born calves eyeing me warily.
This trail down to the road near Fulking has it all. Washed out drainage channels, chalk, flint, lumps of rock, axle deep mud, cow poop. It tops out at nearly 30% just where the cut funnels the gale at you, a proper challenge.
Heading back to the YHA and the Tarmac, the snow/sleet/hail arrived. I wanted to stay out longer but my forehead nearest the wind felt like someone was hammering at it, so I went home.
3 from the commute this morning.

Got up early and rode up Leith hill this morning, back down summer lightning. Going up was hard going in places but surprisingly grippy back down again!
It all looked rather pretty and the neighbors say they get this much snow here once a decade so an opportunity not to be missed I thought!

'Hole in One' EWS stage down to Machico on the island of Madeira... taken late morning today on my 'commute' to the office. might as well have some fun on the trails while I'm marooned out here.
Started out at over 1,800m, way above the clouds....
Pretty quiet out here at the moment as very few tourists now visiting. The guys from Freeride Madeira (Brendogs friends) rocked up with the Ghost Bikes Factory ladies XC squad. Needless to say, we had them on the corners..... :-) (and boy, do they look good in Lycra (https://www.ghost-bikes.com/en/heroes/ghost-factory-racing-team)

Ridden that a couple of times - cracking trail.
Can't wait to get back out - bloody virus.
My favourite trail, from my first trip out in 2016...happy days. One of the freeride guys in the pic.
Fingers crossed for towards the end of the year. I was out here for most of last year and will be again this year (was planning to come home in April, but while I could handle 2 weeks isolation at home like last summer, I'm not doing a hotel quarantine). Off to Prazeres on Sunday. I rode there last year and it took 6 months to fully recover from my injuries. Fingers crossed I will make it down to Paul do Mar in one piece for the post-ride Mojitos. Can't wait to get back out - bloody virus.

What you do?
There are a lot of unforgiving bits on the maderia trails. Some of the linking levada sections are scary enough in their own right.
Touch wood I've not had any big offs. I did have an otb on one trail and whilst unharmed, I was lucky it was into a tree. The tree stopped a big old drop.
