Well my daughter had a new Cnoc 16 in Feb 2015 (price then was £199). She's now outgrown it and moved to her sisters of Beinn 20 Large.

The new price today for a Cnoc 16 is £289 and I sold ours tonight for £210 cash. It was still in mint condition, but not bad making £11 on a bike for 2 years 4 months ownership.

Great bikes.

my eldest has a Frog 52 ( he wanted gears) and can go anywhere on it. some of his mates have heavy bike-shaped-objects with terrible suspension forks.

my youngest is keen to start and i'll be straight off for a littler Frog for her.

they have a trade-up scheme. excellent warranties and are perfect for him.

the school bike shed is awash with frogs of varying colours and a few islabikes.

they are expensive, but an 8km blat for my 5 year old is nothing.

heading to the cairngorms next month and he can't wait.

Well as they grow so does this thread...

My lad is 7 in September and wants a new bike, his older sister has a 24inch wheeled bike on a 10.5 frame and he fits that so it's a real toss up between getting a frog 55 or isla bienn 20 or a pinnacle ash (the latter being more sensibly priced) or getting him onto something bigger hoping it will last longer.
Although he does want a BMX...

Islabikes are expensive, but just consider the total cost of ownership 'What it cost when you sell'. They're not that expensive as a TCO option IMO. I did buy just before a price hike which always helps!

My youngest (aged 9) also has a Frog 52. He regularly handles 12 miles round the red and blue runs at Swinley on it without giving it a second thought. smile

Go to echo this.

My 5yr old happily rides her Frog55 for miles with us. Before that she had Frog48 which was her first pedal bike having started on a Strider balance bike.

Has anyone tried these kids bike lease schemes from Hope/Isla bike yet?

I don't think the Islabikes one has launched yet, but given the staggeringly strong residuals on their bikes, I can't see that a leasing scheme is ever going to manage to be cheaper than just buying a new bike and then selling it for sometimes more than you paid for it a couple of years later!

As for the Hope one, there might well be quite a bit of bike in the 26" option, but even so, £350 per annum is one hell of a lot to pay for a bike you're never going to own! Also, isn't 165mm rather a long crank for a 9yr old?

My sons are three years apart so that works will with a trade down, 6 year old just got a bright green Frog 55, local shop did for £265 fully built up.

Cheaper than the Isla bike and a little heavier but the quality is very good, other non cycling parents think I am mad spending that, but over 6 years use its about £1 a week!

Son loves it so much I may need to get a MTB to go out with him on some trails, not takings a S-Works Tarmac off road!

Our 5 year old twins ride Ridgeback bikes to school everyday. I found them really good, better than the previous Specialized we used to have. Just had them both serviced by my local bike shop and they rate them as well.

I'm looking for daughter's first pedal bike after 2 years on a balance bike. She's just coming up 4 and want to get one for her bday. I know the Islabikes have shot up in price to now £289 (have we reached a ceiling of what is acceptable for a 14" bike?). I'm looking at Alternatives such as the Dawes Academy and Vitus fourteen from wiggle. I liked the Raleigh performance 14 but wife said it was too boyish as it's essentially a mini BMX.

I didn’t realise Vitus did kids bikes - that would be a good option for my son to get the same bike as Daddy.

I think they rebranded the Verenti brand to Vitus to get a range across their branding
