L2B(2L) - Saturday April 25th

Trying to work out if I can get a lift down with the bike, my original thought of "can just hop on the train" doesn't work based on train times. Can be there for 8 without issue but it doesn't get there for 7...
Plan B of "ride down" doesn't work with a 52 mile ride starting at 4am by my count if I cane it.

I'm definitely in, but slightly worried about my speed, or rather lack of it! Still trying to shake off the tail end of a bout of man flu so probably only L2B initially. It'll be my longest ever ride by about ten miles, so doubling that is perhaps a bit over optimistic....
I'm a plodder & I'll be happy to keep you company at the back sir. The main thing is to rnjoy the day , if you don't then what's the point of doing it. You'll be fine & there's no need to worry .Jorrocks said:

I've copied that onto my Strava account. Now it says I created it! I'm not trying to steal the credit, Gruffy, honest I'm not, but I can't see how to edit the ride title.
I'm also a little disappointed with Strava's route creator. The reason I copied the ride was to edit it, in the hope that I could figure out a way to use the Wey Navigation/Downs Link paths from Guildford to intercept the main PH L2B route. Fly in the ointment? Yup, you betcha life there is! Despite Strava's route builder having a "show bike paths" option, there is no way I can see to incorporate said cycle paths into a route, as I'm just directed onto the nearest roads.
Plan would have been to head for somewhere like Turners Hill or Haywards Heath and roll into Brighton with the main body, or possibly hit the Downs Link all the way to Shoreham and meet in Brighton. Although I am still pondering whether to attempt this at all. I don't want to request a delayed start unless I can fully commit to the ride, and I'm probably only about 30% sure I'd do it at the moment.
Edit: I am very nervous about riding in a large group, having very little experience of anything other than riding as a pair.

Not content with riding the full length sportive on the Sunday, a mate of mine is riding from SW London to Dover to get a ferry, then from Calais to Liege (the day before the event) and then doing the event. I think he's bonkers.
80 or so miles to Dover, 200 miles from Calais to Liege, then isn't the event nearly 200 miles too?

With the route, can you not add in extra waypoints? 'Pull' the route onto the tow path you want to ride? The Strava route planner isn't the best user interface but it can be hacked to work with some patience.

I've tried pulling the route onto the (clearly marked as a cycle path) Downs Link, but it always 'snaps' back to nearby roads. There are some sections of the Downs Link that are "cycle friendly roads", but even when I drag the route onto those, Strava still ignores the obvious dark line of the long sections of old rail bed cycle path, and it loops the route around onto nearby roads.I've tried to create a route to Brighton on GoogleMaps, and (when you hit the 'cycle' icon) that does let you route onto cyclepaths. In fact, that is what reminded me of the Downs Link in the first place. So I will have to see if there's a way of loading a Google route into my Garmin Edge 500, and possibly ride it as two separate routes. The Downs Link would need a recce first though, as I'm not sure how suitable it'd be for an out-and-out road bike, and I fear I'd never keep up if I rode the heavy old Falcon on the road section back to London.
After being repeatedly frustrated both last night and this morning, I have, for now at least, run short of patience with Strava's "Route Builder".
