biggrin Yep, road is so much more enjoyable than circuit racing. Just more depth to the racing. There's a winter series on Croft circuit ... its cold and windy up there in summer so in Jan/Feb its Baltic ... I just can't see the attraction.

Unless we get a warm spell early March, I don't think I'll do much before end of April ... just got back from a week in Verbier, 7 weeks of training until a week in St Anton and then hammer myself for 3 weeks till Mallorca and hopefully return with some form.smile

They do. I’ve raced two of them.

I fancy some road racing later in the year too. Probably from around August onwards. Any tips on where to look for a 3rd cat rider in SE London?

Actually plenty up North. North Yorks evening RR league has 8 races for 3/4 cats, plus majority of wknd races are actually 2/3/4 ,,, then there's the Chevin series of about 6 races E/1/2/3/4 ... reckon there's 25 ish RR within an hour (driving) of York during the season. So I think we're pretty lucky up here :-)

If you want to affiliate to SERRL you have to select two events which you will help at as part of the signing up system. You can enter without affiliation, but its more expensive and youll get bumped for affiliated riders if fills up

Sherwood Pines today for some muddy fun XC racing. Couldn't be arsed faffing about with my tyres, so stuck with the Racing Ralphs that were already on the bike, not ideal for winter XC racing. Ace fun sliding around, and I was getting quicker with every lap. No idea where I finished, but nobody passed me after the first half lap chaos, and I had a good time chasing people in front down, passing people right up to the finish. No results out yet, but both me and Our Youth had our best XC race in a long time.

Not to be left out of this thread - decided I'd like to do a bit of road racing and, being worried about crashes in a flat sprint finish, decided to start out at Hog Hill (Redland Cycling Centre) which has a reasonable climb to the finish to weed people out of a 20th place sprint:

Race 1: very windy so no breaks were sticking. Decided I'd hit the last hill hard and hope a couple of people came with me - crap tactic given the wind and nobody joined me leaving me very little in the tank for the sprint finish so rolled in 15th.

Race 2: learned from the previous week, sat in for the majority of the race and sprinted out the finish - won biggrin

Race 3: couple of team mates (not mine) tried in the first couple of laps to get off the front so I joined them but they then sat up. A few laps later, I'd settled back into the pack while they were sat on the front and managed to slip off the front while I was sat too far back to jump. Tried to motivate the pack to do a bit of work to bring them back but only a few of us were interested. Having done a bit more work on the front than I'd have liked and realising the 2 off the front weren't coming back, I sat in again and waited for the finish (knowing I needed 8th to get the points I needed for cat 3), sprinting it out again. Bit of cramp but managed to grab 6th.

So that's 4th cat done and now looking forward to some road racing smile

Well done AyBee.

z4RRSChris, enjoy it, and don't do anything daft.

I'll be at Channock Chase with Our Youth, cursing my choice of single speed...

Sat on an unheated thunder box, on Cannock Chase, dealing with some pre race nerves. It's bloody freezing...
