Trainerroad expectations

Can’t help with the numbers Dom, but I’m sure someone will be along shortly to help....
I’m back on TR post Christmas using like last year, it to add some riding time mid-week and on days like today when conditions were too icy out.
Started with Mountfield earlier in the week, which I ride as two hills with a flat in between.
I did Ericsson today, heavy legs meant I struggled a little initially then got into my stride....

Looks like you didn't go hard enough for the two short high power intervals before the 8min pairs. 308w isn't bad! My ftp is 265ish at the moment.
I am using bkool at the moment sticking with a cyclops and a PM, using the gears you can still see big numbers which ruin me.
Did Ventoux today, 1hr 30 at 240w had buggered me.
Intervals this week.

I'd agree. It kept telling me to not go out too hard, the second block was better.
I haven't been on a turbo for probably 20 years, my cycling is split 80/20 in favour of commuting - that only started again in the past 4 years when I moved house and stopped commuting 150 miles a day.
Reading some more yesterday, it appears watts per kg is a better measure. At 105kg (195cm), I have a bit I can lose, although not massive amounts, so that gives me 2 things to focus on. I'll work on a 6 week base plan around the commuting, and see how I get on.
If anyone has any hints/tips, I'm more than happy to be enlightened.

I'm not sure if it'd help coccygeal pain but have you tried a saddle with a central channel?
I checked last night and the saddle does have a channel. I did a 90 min 'Andrews' last night and the coccyx wasn't too bad afterwards, or this morning, so I suspect it as much about taking it easy and not doing too much too quickly rather than anything else.Ugh tell me about it, had to take 3 weeks off with this flu virus that’s going round, what with Christmas as well what was meant to be an easy reintro (Pettit) really wasn’t very nice yesterday. Just couldn’t get comfortable on the bike and my shoulders are really achey today. Onwards and upwards tho hey?
I've been using trainerroad for all of my riding since the clavicle fracture. I'm getting back into it and have been using my new bike on it too! Going to bike fitters tomorrow to sort out new saddle. I intend to do a decent warm up and then a pretty tough session when I'm back.... Hopefully around lunch time but if it's too late I'll do it before dinner. I've not done a real gutsy session since coming back so will be interesting to see how I feel. The new bike is also a LOT lower (like..... About an extra 8cm drop from saddle to handlebars lower!)
I see on Nate Pearson's Strava feed that they are working on replacing the 8/20 min FTP tests with a power ramp test. Looks like there is a Beta tester facebook page you can sign up to. anyone tried the new test or have any thoughts?
I gather that they are trying to take some of the guesswork/pacing out of the equation and make it quicker to test.
Seems like it works in a similar way to the "bleep tests" I used to do at school

I programmed my own Conconi/ramp test. I also ran a test at a sports lab last Friday. Deary me, the results confirmed my suspicions. I’m not really a natural endurance type.I gather that they are trying to take some of the guesswork/pacing out of the equation and make it quicker to test.

My average time for a mile has come down by a minute since I've been back using TR again. Really pleased.
Looks like the coccyx is almost healed too, a lot less pain for the past week.
Out of interest what is your average time for a minute? If I could take a minute of each mile my 10 mile TT's would be a bit more competitive!Looks like the coccyx is almost healed too, a lot less pain for the past week.

Down to between 3:22 - 3:30 or so, might not be great in the brand scheme of things, but I'm delighted with my progress so far!Last year on this thread I reported 206w on an FTP. Unfortunately the year didn't go as planned and I lost momentum which lost fitness. In the end I just rode around enjoying the time on the bike.
So in November I started back on the trainer and my power was probably just under 200w. Poor for 76kg. I bought a Tacx Neo because I wanted one an many many hours later I'm pushing 242w and still showing week on week improvement. Still haven't shifted much weight (something I need to focus on for next 2 months) but I want to keep going now I'm seeing some decent gains. 3.1kg which I can sustain for an hour, just shy of 1000w sprinting which is up from mid 600s. Not sure where this is all going to end up but im enjoying it!

Thats a great improvement, I have hovered around a FTP of 280w last year, been on the TT sporadically over winter and just been of the bike for two weeks following a chest infection. I think a 20min effort of 265w (then 40mins of 250w afterwards) resulted in the coughing & infections. So in November I started back on the trainer and my power was probably just under 200w. I managed 40mins on the rollers on Tuesday and I have a 107km sportive this weekend, should be fun first outside ride since October. 400w 1 min efforts were interesting without taking off!
I am a similar weight to you at 80kg, I expect 2 weeks off has dented the fitness, but I may drop Bkool. The videos are nice but the structured programmes they do don't seem to be as good as TR. Whereas TR seems to focus on highish cadence alot, Bkool seems to advocate reasonably slow cadences.
I love my kickr. Had it for about 2.5 years and I've used it a LOT! It's been great. I've changed the belt out of precaution (can get these for under £10) and I've also cleaned and regreased the freehub a couple of times as part of a basic maintenance routine for it but it's been well worth the investment. It was showing a power discrepancy for a while from my power meter but after an advanced calibration spindown it's now back to being spot on.
