Thanks for the tips on firm suspension.
There's no need to spec a firm block anymore, there's only one type of suspension block on 2018+ Bromptons. It's made from a different material and is firmer than the old firm block, if that makes sense.

Anyone 'solved' that annoying freeplay in the catch mechanism on the rear triangle when latched? Must have a look at that next time mine comes home for a clean and lube.

Thanks for all the help. I have finally ordered a regular S6L in raw lacquer.
Hope to collect in a week or so.
Raw Lacquer has always been considered to the top finish. Rumor has it, the frames for the raw lacquer are chosen by hand as they want the best braised frames to get that finish.

I have personally never been a fan of that finish, but what I would have is Nickel finished frames. They look superb.

Make sure you apply some helicopter tape to the cable rub points as no matter what the finish is, they will rub through to the frame eventually. Mine is three years old and has rubbed though to bare metal.

Have though about a new main frame in Nickel for mine, but would be quite expensive. May slowly start adding stickers though as mine is so bruised and battered from everyday use and 7000 miles, that no one is going to notice the off off sticker biggrin

Thanks for this. Funnily enough I spotted something last night that said the same and had a picture of the new item

"The suspension block is now smooth with no ridges. There is no firm or normal just this. It is good. Definitely as firm as the firm suspension and if anything more so. I like it."

I have the Brooks saddle in mine! Was looking at ‘used’ original Brompton seat posts, but still prohibitively expensive for me.. About to pull the trigger on gold coloured titanium post from China at the moment (sacrilege, but i’m sure the originals were from Russia, or did I dream that ?)
A link is definitely required...

Apologies for the slight thread hijac but wanted to ask the collective opinion on something. I'm contemplating having a small side business manufacturing bespoke storage boxes for a Brompton. Similar to this pic, with the option to wall mount and perhaps options to store a bag and helmet etc. Is this something that would be of interest in general? By no means am i trying to sell on here, just gauge opinion on if people would actually buy it. Thanks!

There is already a handful of similar shelves around, plus a 'thing' in Ikea which is very similar. Tricky to ship one, I presume?

Some other notions:

https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/242068548699616730...

No idea what the market would be like, but think it should have hand-holes in each side so you can lift it out of the way, should any vacuuming of carpets ever take place. Castors too? Matching paint finish in Tempest Blue?

My Brompton lives in a £5 Dimpa bag under a shelf in the hall. Unless bagged the filthy tyres leave skidmarks on the walls...

Will be a very limited market. I made myself something similar using reclaimed 18mm plywood as a base and then 18mm for the sides and back with 18mm lid. It's just sanded down and stained.

Also practically speaking a solid box didn't really work well as you have to slide it in from the front and that is awkward. It also ruins the finish of the box. I ended up hinging the top of mine so I just lift it up and plonk the bike in which is much easier.

Mines hung up in the garage, so it's a no from me. But I am an unusual Brompton owner, mainly due to the rural-ness.

They come in various lengths too, handy as the standard is a tad too short! Will report back when it arrives!

I sold my navy two speed (the buyer, a lady) hugged me tight post-purchase biggrin

I then went out and bought a immaculate/as new bright orange three speed with rear rack, Brompton lights etc.

I'm happy don't think I can go without a Brompton.

Today I was driving in Calderdale and came across the regular 'Brompton Hill climb' which takes in a climb from the Tour De France biggrin

I've been taking loads of stick in the village local for having one... the big unit landlord has been a decent time trialist in his day, has an unused Ti Lynskey in his mancave, and was pretty sniffy after spotting me around a nearby town on my B, until he saw I rode other more becoming stuff too. Guess who I caught reading a neat little Brompton folding brochure on Friday. hehe

I've gotten grief from our macho lot at work. They even used police tape/parcel tape to hang itfrom a balcony laugh

Anyone been on any arranged Facebook Brompton rides? :hide:

At my previous employer, I got so much stick from a colleague, I challenged him to a race. Topsham to Exmouth along the cycle trail, if anyone knows it.

I started with it folded, and was even in racewear appropriate for the Brompton World Champs. (No lycra, shirt, jacket and tie.) I went for a bow tie and tweed jacket.

I was past him in a couple of minutes, and finished in 2/3 of his time. He stopped taking the piss after that.

Anyone else find their brompton won't roll when folded ? - mine is a 6 speed without rack. The front wheel spokes catch on the sturmey archer gear pull from the rear hub as the front wheel rolls on the ground when the folder bike is pushed.

I've read online about turning over the chain stay catch that is on the front fork. I think the idea is this will offset the front wheel a little and thereby avoid catching, but this had no effect for me.

As it is - it means I can't push it when folded which is a pain.

Haven’t been on Pistonheads for ages, and my post is still running! I also had a lot of stick at work including Police tape lol

It's much much better with a rack.

Hi
Does anyone know if it’s possible to get a decent electric conversion for Brompton, via cyclescheme? My provider can do a voucher for most shops..

Fascinating video featuring Andrew Ritchie explaining how he set Brompton up in the early days:-
