I don't know if it's this story in the news today or my new Knog Blinder rear light but today's commute appeared to feature significantly greater passing distances from all the drivers who passed me on the road. Long may it continue!

Pretty chilly this morning though. 7C.

Had my bike stolen at lunch time today! frown

Rode into Peterborough City Centre to collect a book from Waterstones... Lock was cut and bike stolen inside 10 minutes!!! They clearly hang around waiting for people to lock up bikes worth stealing! Not that she was worth 'that much' but she was to me... frown

It was locked right in front of a CCTV camera, the police are going to look at it but clearly the thief isn't that worried...

What kind of lock was it out of interest?
...very embarrassingly it wasn't a particularly good one. It was supposedly an 'armoured' cable lock but it's very obvious it didn't take much to get though it!

TBH most of the anger I feel is towards myself for not doing a better job of protecting my own property.

I really, really like this - not only as a cyclist but also as a driver - this is an awesome education led initiative! No points, no fine just a run through of the issue and how to improve their driving! Brilliant!

All we need is for it to be rolled out nationally, forces like Cambridgeshire shouldn't get to shirk their responsibility to all road users!

Took long route home after my shift today, done it dozens of times, today though my bike decided to throw me off, broken collar bone, cracked ribs and various cuts and brusies. On a positive note no serious damage to the bike!

Ouch, sounds like a rough one.

Anyone else enjoying the half-term commute? The Birmingham ring-road is practically empty between 8 and 9. It's glorious.

Sadly not today - the disadvantage of half term is that I'm 'able' to drop children at local attractions like Thorpe Park...........

Been a while since I had a near left hook. But tonight was one.

Fiesta passes me, (I'm in the painted cycle lane - dotted line type) Wasn't a bad pass. Plenty of space. But he then keeps pace with me, flicks his indicator on and literally as it flashes its first time he's turning left into a petrol station at 30mph.

I have good lungs wink he stood on the brakes and I dodged up the kerb. Giving him a wtf look and the universal upturned hand. Carried on.

I daresay he did the usual thing of thinking that once he passed the cyclist. I'd be somehow 100metres back by the time he turned. It's just inattentiveness. Not malicious.

Though of course the various stbag posters in the "cyclist killed" thread would say I have to take responsibility for my own safety and if I get hit it can't be the drivers fault. rolleyes

Still could be worse I guess. I repeat that 99% of the people are able to deal with me with no problem. But they aren't the ones I worry about.

Slight tangeant. Saw my Ex's current BF driving his work van this morning. I'm sure he knows what I look like, I'm also sure he's believed the nonsense she told him. So he probably doesn't have a high opinion of me rolleyes But it made me smile as he passed me a couple times (traffic) perfectly safely lots of room. Maybe he's not all bad laugh

The forecast yesterday afternoon let me down, was meant to be dry the reality was torrential rain, absolutely soaked after my 9 mile commute.

Nice ride in this morning though, sun is out, should be a good ride home.

Considering it was a 1% chance of raining this morning...I was surprisingly damp by the time I got in!

Lovely day here in Chatham, started overcast & now bright & warm. I work from home so no commute but did 70 minutes out before lunch today. First time for 3 weeks but wasn't too painful.

I did an early start this morning, and it was warm enough, but dark.

It's lovely here today, and I'm almost disappointed to be getting picked up from work. This will be covered though, as we're going to see our puppy, (due to collect in a couple of weeks.)

Enjoying the last of the summer commutes. It’s dark when I set off but catch sunrise in the countryside about ten minutes in.

Light and warm on my return journey and agains catch sunset.

Looks like the cold mornings are back next week along with the clocks going back, bah!

Sorry to hear about the fall. I hope it all heals quick, and heals well.
Quick summary from what I remember:

Revised layout to part of one of my routes home, a combination of, poor light, shadow of a motorway flyover, me not wearing my prescription cycle glasses.

I thought there was a drop kerb, there wasn't, after that it's all a mystery. Helmet took the brunt of the head meets road part of the process the left shoulder took the rest of the impact, heard the crack so knew it wasn't going to be a jump back on and hope no one was watching.

As it's a quiet road I thought best plan was to have a lie down for a while and see what was what. I managed to walk the last 2km home with the bike.

Trip to casualty took less than an hour from booking in, assessment, x ray, and consultation with Dr so big thumbs up to the NHS.

Post accident, very little damage to the bike, just the usual point of contact scuffs. Cracked ribs causing a bit of discomfort and may need surgery on the break. Otherwise all is good.

Left hand lever threw a hissy fit and refused to change down.

LBS managed to get it working again but said it was full of mud (I go through a lot of mud on my route), needed a good clean out but will probably fail completely sometime soon.

Started trying to order Di2 stuff. Not easy with hydraulic brakes but so far have a right hand lever on the way. Once I track down the left hand one I can order the rest of the bits.

I have possibly over reacted!
