The daily "I cycled to work" thread (Vol 2)
Discussion
I was really tired on the way home and had to contend with a strong northerly headwind on most of the uphill sections.
Still, the four day the swim/cycle/run/cycle regime has made up for the over-indulgence last weekend and has knocked a little bit more weight off.
Working at home today and exercise-wise doing no more than making sure I get my 10,000 Fitbit steps in.

Temp said -4c with windchill this morning
Is that in Bristol? If so that's brutal.I did experience temperatures like that last weekend but I was in the Scottish Highlands, 2,000 feet up on the Beallach. Not on a bike. In a hire car. Getting towed out of a snow drift.....
Very unusual to get these temps in the West Country or the SE.
0 degrees in Wiltshire yesterday, Met office said "feels like -5" and it did
Last night was the hardest commute home this year, on a pitch back old railway all the mud and ruts had frozen so the ruts were "interesting" on a roadbike. Thought I would take it easy due to the risk of ice on the unlit back roads, but blimey I then hit a mental headwind, ice cold and almost had me at crawling pace!! Didn't help that I over inflated my tyres a bit too much, plus the cold made them rock hard so the ride was unbearable almost!! I then got on a B road and the wind was blowing me sideways!!
Managed to get out the sticks and hit Swindon (never thought I would look forward to seeing COate Water roundabout) I then stopped at some lights to cross the road (on a cycle path) but I ended up somehow headutting the traffic light post!!!! Thankfully had a helmet on so that took the impact..
Finally got home and realised the cold had killed off the batteries in 2 of my 4 lights!!!
Ive been doing the commute 3/4 times a week for 4 years and always enjoy the ride home, but blimey last night was dire!

Melbourne has been up to its normal tricks again this week. We had a few days of it being 36 in a row, followed by torrential rain.
I've kind of given up with wet weather gear as it's not normally that cold. I just stick to flip flops, shorts, and t-shirt. I figure, you can only get so wet and the least amount of clothes the better!!!

Yeh I'm commuting from NE Bristol into Filton, that was going off the met office too like Twistingmymelon says who's just over in Wiltshire, we're getting a strong northerly wind at the mo so I guess it's pulling the cold down. Luckily it's been bone dry so no ice other than frosty grass and windscreens, raining today though.

Doesn't the law down-under require that you must wear a bicycling helmet too?I've kind of given up with wet weather gear as it's not normally that cold. I just stick to flip flops, shorts, and t-shirt. I figure, you can only get so wet and the least amount of clothes the better!!!
6 degrees in London this morning. Much more pleasant experience.
Also, really noticing the difference that the Cateye Volt 400 makes - I must be far more visible - far fewer drivers are pulling out on me, pedestrians are spotting me and stepping back onto the pavement instead of launching.

Whilst I run lights on the bike, I've added exposure tracer's to my helmet this winter. These appear to have definitely made a difference in the routes I cycle in the home counties, especially on unlit 40/50/60 road sections. Also appears to be helping when coming up to junctions and setting road position, it provides a clear intention that you're looking to move. 8 degrees when I set off, tropical compared to last week, looks cold towards the end of the week though.
Both yesterday and today I got a bit annoyed with people wheel sucking me, the wind has changed to a SW, hence the temp rising again which leads to a strong head wind on the way in. Both mornings I've passed a slower rider only for them to then wake up, get in my tow and take it easy for a few miles, I think it's a bit rude to do this so today I just sat up, stopped pedalling and let them come by only for them to blow at the slightest incline.
