The daily "I cycled to work" thread (Vol 2)
Discussion
Too many piss ups and conferences this week - Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.....
Making up for it with a 4k run on Monday a 6k yesterday and another one tomorrow (before the carnage).
Today I am mostly climbing the 10 flights of stairs to my office. 30 flights so far, 20 to go. Starting to get ready for the Tower 42 Vertical Rush* in March.

- in my case it's going to be a vertical "rush".
Good ride in today, dry round London and slightly warmer.
A problem I have right now is some sciatic pain, I can trace it in a line from the gluts down through my leg to the calf on my left side only. it's not bothering me at all while cycling, that's pain free... but walking (apart from uphill) and standing are quite painful. I wonder if the cycling has brought this on. Internet says maybe angling the saddle upwards a touch might help, so maybe introducing the new saddle on my rebuilt allez I've used almost exclusively for the last month has done it.
I recently discovered the "Silly commuter racing" thread on bikeradar which looks quite fun... anyone on here posting there too?

I don't post there, but I'm aware of the game. Sadly, my commute is fairly rural, so I don't often score many points, or lose any. (Except when on my Brompton in the summer.)Used to enjoy it in London before I "retired" to the countryside though.
Penultimate commute of the year today, just one left on Thursday as I'm away Tues/Weds.
Bit of a chilly morning, 2c when I sent with a few bits of surface ice on the paths, roads seemed to be fine though.
With this morning's ride that puts me at 3835 miles, target of 4000 for the year, hoping to do another 20 or so on the way home today, 40 in total Thursday, 40 Sunday leaving me about 65 or so to do the last week of the year.

I have temporarily switched back to using the old £56 gumtree hybrid klunker for commuting while my car is out of action, but I've done a bit of a refurb on it so it's not so klunky any more. I wanted to switch to drop bars to get more hand positions but that needed brifters etc. so I justified myself an upgrade on my best bike in order to trickle down some kit to this one.
Reason I mention all that here is that I re-used the chain from the previous bike knowing that it was too short, just hoping to get myself to work and near a bike shop this morning to get another one. Of course I forgot not to use the forbidden gears close to the end of the journey and had annoying 10 mins at Bank station unjamming it.
Other than that, a decent ride in this morning. Chilly but not too cold, not icy, not rainy.

First commute of the year, only just avoided a being hit.
Hydraulic disc brakes have just gone up another notch in my estimation, they saved me from a nasty one. Can't see myself ever buying a bike without them in future.

Been back on my bike for first time in ages ... Could be a month since I last rode anywhere, 4 months since cycling to work (had to stop, no work to go to). Back cycling to new work now and - apart from bum not being used to saddle any more - it is really nice being back.
Its been warm (ish) this week, was overheating on Wednesday with extra layers on!

After at least 12 months off the bike with knee trouble, I finally got the all clear last week and have commuted 3 times this week. Wow I'm slow, but it's great to be back in the fresh air. Also perfectly timed as I'm picking up a new car this weekend which does 18mpg, so regularly using the bike will hopefully save some cash.
