Bloody freezing! I only have a short commute but with winter gloves on, layered up to my eyeballs, I still froze my arse off. It even snowed on the way home.

Wasn’t suffering too badly with the cold this morning after the first couple of miles. Legs had nothing to give though, not sure if that was because they were tight due to the temperature or because of the horrible Monday morning headwind.

Had a “why am I doing this?” thought when I was leaving work but the reality wasn’t as bad as the thought. Quite enjoyed the ride home actually - must have had a wind assist.

Oh yeah, love my Northwave boots. Made the biggest difference to my comfort of all my gear.

Wasn’t wearing anyrhing special apart from that but was layered up. Couldn’t find my winter gloves as I took them skiing the other week and have not seen them since. Had to make do with my Galliber mid season gloves. I should have worn my buff to protect my face a little but managed without. Problem with the buff is I feel slightly sick if I wear anything around my neck.

Normally I ride all year round but I have given up for this week. I have all the kit and didn't feel cold in the extremities I just felt cold all over and that's not good. What was poo was driving in this morning, my van hasn't moved in a week and half and it seems the rear calliper has seized and by the time I arrived at work it was smoking and stinking. Now I might have to brave cycling in if I cant sort it later, if that's the case I need some thicker longs and add more layers lol.

Nice and fresh this morning -7c with windchill eek

Decided to add another base layer today, apart from my fingers being a bit cold to start with, I was lovely and warm after 10 minutes.

Didn't look at the temperatures, but it was all very similar for me. Had my full winter longs on for the first time this winter. They make my legs feel heavy, but they keep me warm.

Fingers toasty when I started the first descent, I guess the blood was being used to get me up the hill, and then spread out when I was able to ease off a bit.

Nice and crisp -4 this morning but sunny. Shame about the chilly winds......

Anyway I though I'd share a quick video of my commute (mostly as I'm testing a new camera for skiing and things.... smile )

That's what cycling in Holland is like smile

Had a visit from the p-fairy last night, decided to walk to the station as it was only 2 miles.

Didn't fix it last night, came in today on my old Brompton. Pretty cold this morning!

Very good! Took me a while to twig why you were on the wrong side of the road wink
Does the canal freeze over in this weather - water looked a bit glassy in a couple of places?

The smaller, shallower ones do during a decent winter but that large canal is an important waterway and is kept open. It had frozen during the night but the first barge through in the morning acts as an icebreaker. Very noisy.

Just looked and it’s starting to freeze over again.

Great video, looks very different to commuting in Birmingham...

It was snowing pretty heavily on the way home today, the main roads were fine but on the side road for the last km uphill (for Brum) to my house I was not confident on the skinny tyres.

Random smatterings of snow here in N.Bristol yesterday, road home in a blizzard!

Elected not to ride today as the chance of snowy / ice patches put me off.

Main roads were fine to drive but I ride 4 miles of the journey on a cycle path.

I drove into Purley and rode in to the centre of London from there this morning. Garmin showed a min of -9°C but generally sticking to the A roads I was mostly able to ride on road rather than ice.

Minor clagging!

More than just a bit of clagging! Good gunk.

I looked out the window this morning and decided it was a MTB day. Then I got out and the roads were clear. So I was a bit over-biked. Extra-cold today because the wind has picked up. Pretty unpleasant.

First ride to work today on my dad's old hydrid, which is a size too small and feels mega short and twitchy after riding some XL size slack MTB's over the past few weeks eeklaugh

Still, 13 minutes to do 2ish miles is better than the 35 minutes it takes to walk it, I'll be doing the commute on a full sus MTB come the middle of April so that should be a bit more fun, there's some stairs to ride down and I'll be able to take a more direct route down a footpath/underpass which has loads of glass scattered about thanks to tubeless tyres biggrin

Well this morning saw all the fair weather commuters out in force. My usual SCR tally along the tow path between Kings Norton and Edgbaston is rarely more than 2, got it up to 12 today!

Have many of the fairweathers been zwifting away over the winter and been able to come out in force? Most of the pasty riders emerging I've noticed aren't ready to challenge SCR.

Went for a 60 ish miler with a friend who has been Zwifting a lot over the winter. It has been effective, but it hasn't helped his timing, or ability to look over his shoulder. hehe

Legs feeling it a bit this morning, but nice to be in bibs, base and short sleeve. Perhaps needed armwarmers though.

I had the arm warmers on, but was perhaps a bit too warm

Number of cyclists on my route has trebled this week, normally I'm one of the slowest but now I feel like Bradley Wiggens!

I'm now up to 95miles this week, which is good for me. Not looking forwards to Friday commute as its the return of the rain where I am (Hampton Court/Woking).
