Had a few times this morning where I had to drop down 2 or 3 gears on the flat! The wind was absolutely brutal. Forecast claimed about 45kph but it was gusting more than that. Perils of living on the coast.
I had planned to walk in and run home but wimped out as soon as I saw the weather.

Some days I have to use the granny ring on the flat out there

I didn't know about that one, I'm only just up the road in Scheveningen. Apparently the Burcht van Leiden is 9 meters but I'm not sure you can cycle up there. The biggest hill my Garmin's registered so far is 7m in the dunes between Scheveningen and Katwijk
Absolutely baltic in Glasgow this morning. At least it was dry so ice wasn’t an issue. Didn’t help that I forgot my work pass and towel, only realising half way in, so my 7km Ride became 12km. Really need to buy some decent socks as toes were stinging.
Bike is also requiring some tlc as it’s starting to skip gears under load too. All that being said, still much better than standing on a packed commuter train getting coughed and sneezed on

. Be careful out there people!! I came off my mountain bike last week on black ice at around 25mph (down a steep hill). I landed on my right side with quite a heavy impact and proceeded to skid down the track and come to rest in a large puddle

. -2° C and frosty this morning, but it does have its benefits: The bits over fields and paths that I use on my way to work can be really muddy and heavy going. Was out on Sunday and suffering wheel spin, but today the frozen ground was a real benefit, way firmer and I got across the fields much quicker than usual.
Front deraileur froze up shortly after leaving home (I washed the bike last night) But the tyres made a nice sound through the frozen grass, like cycling over rice crispies
My route is 9 miles each way path/forest/road. this time of year I wear two layers of full thermals, overshoes, over trousers, jacket, scarf, balaclava, and thermal gloves, never had a problem getting cold
Going home the melted ground felt really slippier than usual .. swings and roundabouts I guess!

Snow in Wigan this morning, kept it a little bit slower. In Salford there was more road showing, but still lots of cars that are driven by idiots around so kept me slower.
Woman in an Audi (I think) who wheelspan away right in front of me - I had to brake, even though I was going at 10mph - obviously in a hurry. Later on a car decided to left hook me in to a road. I have multiple lights on, wear hi viz jacket and hi viz ankle straps, what more should I do, wear a sign saying "please don't do silly things to me"?

A bit of snow this morning but not enough to settle. Very disappointed as I enjoyed the snowy cycle paths last week. Current forecast reckons sleet for my ride home. Lovely.
a) The easiest way to carry a sword when cycling is on your belt as you would carry it on a horse.
b) When cycling with a Katana on his belt he seemed to get cut up by cars a lot less often
You'd probably just get arrested for it these days though.

One of my Jitsu instructors at university many years ago discovered that: a) The easiest way to carry a sword when cycling is on your belt as you would carry it on a horse.

Abrupt change in weather, it was 7c and clear this morning, meaning I was a bit overdressed. Heavier traffic than normal also meant a few creative drivers were trying their own personal solutions to pulling out from side roads or join the flow etc. Lane discipline and roundabout are mere suggestions in the morning in Birmingham, which helps wake me up.
