I have some Neoprene Castelli gloves for the wettest days, similar to these, which I paid about £5 for some time ago:

Please also remember that now is the right time to be buying your winter commuting kit, stuff like winter gloves and boots are very cheap. These are examples, so you may find even better deals if you look around:

Just ordered some of these. Also, did you ever choose / get your 5k bike?

I'm hoping to have an update to this shortly. I don't want to tempt fate.

I love some of the comments you get as a cyclist when commuting to work. *sarcasm mode off*

So I walk to my desk, helmet and water bottle in hand, drenched in sweat, wearing cycle shorts and shoes.

"did you cycle in today (look of surprise on their face)?"

Me, gesturing at the clothing I'm wearing and my helmet "erm... Yes." rolleyes

And then, from the same person, who's idea of 'cycling' is probably riding round a park at 10rpm cadence at 2mph barely even getting out of breath:

"is that rain or sweat?"

Me: "it's sweat, I've just cycled 13 miles..."
Them: "oh, you only live round the corner though, and you look like that!!"
Me, under my breath: "yes, that's what happens when you actually put an effort in and ride 13 miles in 50 minutes."

I get the same, was complaining about on Twitter earlier in the week. "Is it raining out there?", "Did you drive with the roof down?", "You wont need a shower now".

My sides, splitting.

Off the back of this post I had a look for some new winter boots. Not the newer 'Flash GTX', admittedly, but Go Outdoors have Northwave Farenheit and Celcius boots in a small selection of sizes for only £75. I need a new pair as the soles have come away from the boots on my old pair (due to an accident where I failed to unclip). Almost worth the trip to Poole and paying for a discount card.

I've also found several new (to me) bike shops locally, as well as the nearest Decathlon store. All I need now is to stop doing DIY and get my bikes back (my brother-in-law is looking after them for me) so I can get riding again. It's been a month since I last rode now, and I think that's the longest (unforced) lay-off I've endured in years.

I just tried to order these. It said free delivery but when I went to check it out it said delivery not available and I would have to collect from store. When I tried to select a store everything local said it couldn't be done at that store. Tried my parents postcode also and nothing near them.

Bugger really.

How are we managing in the heatwave? I threw in the towel yesterday evening at 31°, after double my usual water consumption on my trip home, and arriving completely soaked! Opted to use an air conditioned motor vehicle this morning biggrin

Actually reasonably pleasant in the shade cycling home...sadly only about 1/3 of my journey is in the shade though. However it's flat and only 3.5km so not too bad. Tomorrow's forecast is predicting 37 though!

Poor show. Dragged my commute out from 10 to 32 miles last night to make the most of it. This morning I was walking the dogs and considering using the car before I came to my senses. After trudging through the winter we deserve this. It's brilliant.

hehe I know, I know, I should be on it, the weather is amazing! 35° forecast for tommorow, but I have a day off and the bike is in for a service, so that's my excuse. Seriously, how much water should you consume on an 9-12 mile route in this weather?

I've just drunk half a bottle on the way home. Normally ride it without a drink.

Even 5km becomes a sweatfest. Commuting through traffic in the heat is a warm experience.

I didn't feel like I had a lot in my legs this morning, despite using the Sunday bike.

I did take the scenic route home on the rather heavy commuter last night though...

I did the off road commute yesterday, the return trip included a looong stop at the pub for pizza and several very cold malted recovery beverages...

Chickened out today, but I did have an early doctor's appointment so would have been VERY late for work if I had ridden in.
