I agree. I have tried Flight jackets on and the fit with my helmet is good, and I am looking forwards to an increase in field of vision without the frame getting in the way. Wearing them off the bike and thinking they look good would be questionable.

I went crazy with my wages burning a hole in my pocket so finally got on to buying the parts needed to recommission my MTB.
A new spoke for £0.20.
In fact I went extra crazy and bought two.
As "man maths" goes, it's a good effort. Spending 100% more than you planned. It's just that the actual amount needs a little work... A new spoke for £0.20.

Cheapo aerobars as trial a week ago. Dead scary for the first few miles. Wobbles developed with increasing amplitude. Secret seems to be to relax and rethink my steering - just a minute change in L/R pressure is all that's needed to steer. Am getting the hang of them now but won't ride closer than one bike length to another rider. Still experimenting with saddle position and probably ought to raise the stem a few mm. Longest continuous stretch I've managed on them is 2.5 miles. Need to concentrate more on reading the road ahead, especially avoiding potholes. Gear changing is a pain but manageable - temptation is to grind the uphills at too low a cadence rather than change a gear. Two rides down to the south coast on minor roads where I've used them up to 30% of the time. Main reason for the trial is to reduce my arthritic hand/wrist numbness on long rides - and they show promise Time to invest in a bike fit?

I got a fairly big wobble first time going downhill - turns out one of the reach adjustment bolts wasn't tight! Some minor upgrades, both for the MTB and Road Bike:
For the MTB - Renthal Fatbar Carbon. Had them on my old bike, they felt great. Have had the new bike a year on stock aluminium bars, so it is time to upgrade. 780mm wide.
For the road bike - Ultegra brake calipers. My Giant Defy came with Tektro brakes, and for the past 3 years they have been fine. However, after a hilly sportive at the weekend, their shortcomings were clear. So, a cheap pair of 2nd hand 6800 Ultegras, and good new pads please!
