My ASSOS six day jersey, hat and socks arrived yesterday. A bargainous £21 including delivery in the Black Friday sale on their outlet site. I did see it at £32 a couple of weeks and didn't buy, so was really pleased when it was still in stock in my size at £21. I can see why ASSOS stuff is so expensive, it does feel real quality, but I'd never bring myself to spend full retail on it!

Quite a big 'bit', the whole thing!

Just an excuse to post a picture! Not had a bike of any sorts for circa 15 years and having never had a road bike, my mate lent me his cheapy Btwin for a couple of month, really enjoyed riding it so bought this Cannondale Synapse Carbon Disc 105 at the end of August from Evans. Think I bought at just the right time as got £200 of free clothing on bikes over £1,500 at the time.

Managed to get the bike, shoes, cleats, pedals, bottle cage, 2 short sleeve jerseys, a long sleeve jersey, gloves and a jacket all for about £1,700!

Nice looking bike. Probably worth thinking about a bit fit if you haven't had one - really made a difference when I had mine done.

Enjoy!

Just bought some new tyres for my winter bike (Cube Peloton SL)

After spending weeks trying to decide which ones to go for, I finally settled on Specialized Roubaix Pro in 23/25, Got them for £32 with an online voucher.

Done a couple of short rides and I'm really impressed with them so far.

Just bought a Rapha Merino hat:

I felt like my fellow cyclists didn't look at me favorably due to my budget Planet X hat. Sadly that didn't cut the mustard in London wink

Just bought? A Shimano HG-50 8-speed 11-32t cassette and a KMC X8.93 chain to go with it.

I plan to fit it on Saturday morning now, as it's for my son's commute bike and he hasn't got a 'daylight' gap in his schedule until then.

Could have done it yesterday, or the day before if the lazy beggar had got out of his pit earlier. I want him to learn that there's no "magic bike mechanic fairy" and I'm damned if I'm doing it all myself anymore - he needs to learn how to at least do basic bike jobs for himself...

I got my brother in law one of the Lifeline Torque Wrenches for his birthday. If it turns out to be OK, he's going get me one for Christmas. (If it's rubbish, I might end up with a lightly used one instead of a new one.)

I've got one and its great for the money! My only slight niggle with it is there is no lock on the handle to stop you increasing the value set. Once you bear that in mind, its not a problem.

Thanks to my son dropping my Lezyne front light and breaking it, I bought an Exposure Joystick Mk12, seems to be a good road commuting light, better be for £99 (down from £159 at Sigma).

Don't really need it but it was a good price so I bought a new lid. Giro Cinder for less than £50

Nice lid, like the style of these and the Synth, my head just doesn't fit very well in Giro helmets for some reason.

What helmet do you currently use then? I looked at an Spesh Evade. But the adjustment part rubbed on the back of my head (the bone - external occipital protuberance - on the back of my skull is relatively pronounced! fking weird genetics! laugh

My old "Giro Monza" is due for renewal now on age. So open to alternatives. Always feel it sits a bit high and a bit far back on my head, despite doing what I can with the straps.

Replacement Giro probably comes down to Cinder, Aeon or Savant. So anyone with views on those or alternatives from POC or Kask welcome

Currently using a Specialized Airnet in spring /summer and a cheaper Spesh one in fluro yellow for commuting/winter.

I've been using a Giro Trinity for the last couple of years but never really got on with it. It was comfortable enough but a bit mushroom-y and was a bit finicky to adjust. It was a M though and I've come to the conclusion I have a small enough head to justify a S. No sniggering about 'small helmets'!

I tried a small Synthe a while ago and that was a much better fit, very good in fact, and by most accounts the Cinder is very similar. It arrived today and I can confirm it is a great fit, very comfortable and with none of the excessive and hard-to-adjust straps of my previous Giro and Specialized lids.

Also looks much more svelte, very important for the coffee shop posing.

Hope headset spacers, because after servicing the fork on my hardtail I tried putting the bike back together and appear to be missing a spacer. I couldn't find it anywhere on the garage floor, although now that I've ordered replacements I'm sure it will turn up...

Make sure you try them on without bolting the cleats on first. I bought some shoes from merlin and of course you bolt the cleats on so you can try them on the bike. They weren't right and merlin wouldn't let me return them. In fact they were pretty rude and unhelpful about it.

Ended up flogging them on Ebay ??

In the last couple of weeks I've bought:
Carbon bars on eBay for the grand sum of £35
Fizik classic super light bar tape in blue
Lezyne USB2 rechargeable front and rear lights.
Wifey also bought me a gore jersey (my preferred brand), but that is being exchanged as it's too big)

It's my birthday in a coupe of weeks and I'm hoping that the birthday fairy will bring me some Sidi Genuis Shoes. My shimano ones are six years old and looking pretty tired, but amazingly they aren't falling apart unlike my shimano MTV shoes which are falling apart.
