The "what bike bits have you just bought" thread Vol 2
Discussion
I noticed that the shifts on my hybrid / winter hack suddenly went to st on my ride home yesterday. I’d only just replaced the cables ( inners and outers ) so I thought it was probably that. It soon became clear that the problem was, that the rear mech was practically hanging off the hanger. That’s interesting / annoying, as it was fine when I re cabled it last week. I’m guessing it’s taken a whack in the bike storage at my place, as I haven’t stacked it or dropped it. That’s a bit irritating to say the least. It gave me a good excuse to get a new mech, chain and cassette though, so it’s not all bad.

You should check the hanger alignment if you think it's impact damage. take-good-care-of-the-forest-dewey said:

I check and ( if necessary) straighten the hanger whenever I change chains anyway. It’s always worth the effort as they can get knocked out of kilter quite easily, and given the chain is already off, it’s no great shakes to get the mech off and give the hanger a check and straighten.TheJimi said:
I can think of better ways to spend 370 quid on getting your arse looked after
I remember my very first 70 miler (after getting as far as 17 miles previously).....I genuinely thought i'd killed my dick and would need blue pills for the rest of my life with no feeling in it for hours afterwards and then the pain of pissing brambles.I'd have paid more than that on that day to take the pressure of that part and never have to have had that experience!!!!!
As is par for the course at present, I had to order drive train components from different companies, as no one had all the bits together. Yesterday, I ordered a rear mech from Halfords, and a cassette from wiggle, I paid for next day delivery from Wiggle, and Halfords said their standard delivery would get it to me on or before Tuesday the 16th Feb. Both bits turned up this morning, well done to Halfords on that.
Not the most exciting purchase but I finally changed my cable outers yesterday after 12,000 miles. I'd previously been changing the inners and using the original outers
The difference in shifting is massive, much more precise changes and a much lighter action too, feels like a new bike!
I think going forwards I'll always change both together as I didn't quite realise how much impact the change would have

I have been riding in Vans since June , so thought I'd get a pair of five tens and see what the fuss is about. Had a 20% off discount code which was nice too ...
Match quite nicely to my new helmet..
I'd be interested to hear your feedback on the shoes. I've just been using a pair of old trainers and they're falling apart a bit. There are so many options for five tens, not sure exactly where to start!Match quite nicely to my new helmet..

Its taken me probably 3 months to pull the trigger on these. Never tried a pair on and ordered a full size up (which may/may not be the right move). I looked at the five ten sleuth, sleuth dlx and Freerider ,the Leatt dbx 2.0 and 3.0 and Ride concepts. So pretty much every MTB shoe lol far too much choice tbh.Love riding in Vans , grippy as hell and used to use them for BMX. But they have seen better days now.
I've been using a pair of 5 Ten Freerider Pro's for the past 2-3 months and if anything they are almost too grippy! You almost have to lift your foot off fully to re-position your foot if you need to. Not really a negative and so far they are great with good water resistance and good support. Definitely go a size up.

No wonder you nearly killed it!
