On the (90s vibe wink ) TREK, is the chain meant to be as slack as that?
Definitely not, still need to position brake levers, shifters and tighten up.

And then put the chain back on from where I removed the wheel smilesmile

Great bit of kit (even if mixing Sram and Shimano makes my teeth itch!).

Purple is going to nicely channel a 90s vibe on a very modern machine.
Or clash horribly... Orange is the required colour - Gulf racing! Albeit a predictable one.

Nice bike though.

Today I'm idly considering a sonic bath for cleaning chains and cassettes and the like. Something like:

https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07C1ZCHZM/

Now, I need to have a measure up, and I'm probably not going to be able to justify something to clean the larger part of an 11-50 cassette, but for chains and road cassettes, this might be a much easier way to get ride of the clag that gets on them.

Has anyone got any experience?

Not for bike bits, but we had an industrial jobby for hydraulic bits, cogs, only head parts, etc. Worked a treat.

Don’t have hands on experience, just been looking and researching.

That one looks rather too pretty. Generally the pretty ones are jewellery type affairs and won’t have the power for cleaning greasy mechanical stuff. You need one that looks like it belongs in a lab.

Don't have one but keen to see how effective they are. Takes minutes to whip the chain and cassette off so might invest..

Thank you for all the advice re panniers. Noted seat tube mounts are bad.

I will take a look at the Tortec options, they look within my price range and very light.

If you do get a Tortec, they put the nuts and washers inside the cardboard label it arrives in. Lots of folks struggle to find them.

Seems valid, thanks both. This seems a bit less "pretty" and is a fraction bigger:

@firsthippy on Twitter has done a fair bit of that if you scroll through.

That looks like the porta potty thingy I have in the garage in case I get caught short on the turbo.

Your poos may smell, but at least they are super clean.

New stem to stretch out a little smile

The clamp on the new stem turned out to be a little deeper than the one I took off, and with only 10mm spacers to play with, I couldn't get the right height on the steerer tube.

So this triggered a purchase cascade wink

Given I have fitted a Wolftooth chain ring, and I like their style (I bought a t-shirt and socks along with the chainring....) I went for their various-sized spacer kit and top cap which is also a 5mm spacer in itself.

And because I was paying for quick delivery and had a 15% off voucher, while I was there I also got:
a nano torque wrench for easy fiddling with the stem/stack/etc (I have a big one that goes low enough, but it's hard to use around the bike and certainly won't go on the rides with me);
new bar tape as I want to move the brakes around a bit and thicken up the bars in general and especially on the tops and drops - I intend to use strips of old tape underneath to build a bit of girth for my big hands;
and a waterproof pouch for my phone, as I keep having to dry the sweat off it when I pull it out of my back pocket yuck

Oh, and following the couple of threads here about bikes being stolen, I remembered to take a couple of pics of my frame number... just in case...

I like the Renthal Fatbar I have on the Trance so much that I ordered one for the hardtail as well.

The Renthal 7° backsweep seems to suit my wrists much better than the 9-10° of the OEM bars on my bikes.

Gravel tyres, and restocked the first aid kit with plasters and wound dressing.

Turns out cornering fast on gravel, with a bike shod in 700c 35mm Schwalbe Marathon Racers isn't a good idea biggrin

Karoo 2 vs Wahoo Bolt v2?

Ignoring price whats the preferred option. Tempted by both I know Jonny rates the Karoo v2.
