No but gorgeous colourway.

I do have steel (Fairlight) and can attest to the increased comfort they provide whilst remaining usefully stiff.

Out of interest, why ceramics?

I've never seen a decent review of them - but that was a couple of years ago when I last looked. I'd never heard of them before so was curious.

The only benefit seemed to be life span of the pad but they required heat to work and we're poor cold and wore the rotor much faster. Hardlyvanyvdust seemed to be another benefit IIRC.

Have they managed to get them working from cold now?
Honestly... a bit of an experiment.

I don't like sintered. I don't need the sort of high temp, work immediately in any weather capabilities they claim. The noise just sets my teeth on edge. They were standard fit on two sets of brakes I've bought in the past and I couldn't change them out quickly enough.

I actually like organics to be fair, and I have a spare set already but as I was planning on changing my worn ones this coming weekend, I thought I'd try a set of ceramics, just so I can talk with authority/experience when other people ask about them.

If they're crap, for 16 quid I'll just write them off.

Cool. Always worth trying new stuff... I've got a box of grips and saddles hehe

Let us know what you think of them.

I tried to get hold of a Fairlight and a Niner RLT. Gave up and got a Cube Cross Pro SL..

Now I'll be swapping out the bits and selling the Cube F&F.

It's not a gravel frame but it'll be run as one, as an all-rounder.

That's my Enigma too. Really, it's an audax frame (my Etape). The hipster version of gravel bikes, around before they were cool...

It's a Volare, steel, but a cheap one laugh A few years old now but still going strong.

If anyone is keeping track, I tried the Oakley helmet too, and it was indeed a fraction too small. It was a better head shape than the Planet X version, but the rear was rubbing on the back of my head even when stood up in the kitchen, never mind a TT position.

They've both gone back, and I think a Giro Aerohead is the next one to try.
W have success! Not only does it fit like a glove, but it was delivered, tried on, adjusted and put into the garage all whilst the wife was out picking the kids up from school.

hehe

I 'ave just purchased a Park Tool DAG 2.2 alignment tool. Think this will be useful because I'm doing up a lot of bikes.

Ah, evening, G.
I didn't know yours was steel. It certainly doesn't slow you down!

I bought one a few years ago. Brilliantly simple and horribly expensive - the number of people who have found out... it's amazing. The single most "famous" tool in my collection. It's the, "Hi - I hear you can straighten hangers. Would you mind...?" question I get at least once a week at the moment (cycling season).

Back on topic, new brake pads for the Decathlon bike.
I got change out of a fiver. Most excellent.

More money left over to spend on the vitals of life, like beer and petrol ;->

Yes, expensive, especially at the moment. However, I feel it's a justified purchase to help with my work.

Not sure if anyone has bought or is waiting for... the ALDI bike assembly stand. was meant to go on sale a montha go but it's delayed and still TBC. I don't need one urgently but it would be nice to have one for washing, learning how to do repairs (i want to index my gears) and other things.

Not sure if I should wait for it, or buy the halfords 'bikehut' stand that's £35, though I can get it with a 20% discount.

Despite being a 6'4" lanky git, I'm narrow, so having improved/corrected the reach on my new bike, I've suddenly realised just how wide the bars are on my XL frame... I had it in my head they were 44cm, but they're actually 46cm, plus noticeable gravel-fashion-victim flare on the drops.

My old bike has 42cm bars on, which I never really thought much about either way, and a tape measure suggested 40cm for my shoulders. Going from 44 to maybe 42 didn't seem worth changing, but 46 down to 40 is a solid inch+ in on each side, so off stock hunting (actually, bars don't seem too bad to get hold of at the mo, as it were wink ).

While I was there, I was looking for something with a slightly fatter profile on the tops and maybe drops, as like the rest of me, my hands are narrow but long and the thinner sections of the original bars needed thickening up to be comfortable.

So...

Arrived today and fitted this evening. A couple of pics to show the difference - new on old (aka, I've just built my own Canyon Grail! biggrin ), then vice versa:

I'm not going to wrap them yet, I'll have a shortish ride or two and see if I need to tweak anything first. I have sorted that dodgy bit of tape on the left corner!
I've set the hoods slightly upwards, and pointed in to get as relaxed a wrist position as I can. I notice on the photos that the left and right aren't quite at the same angle; I'm not sure if that's because the steering isn't straight, or because I just did one wrist, then the other... and my left wrist has a permanent subluxation following a motorbike crash a few years back, so it may well just want a different angle.

I'm only 6ft2 but can't even imagine riding 42cm again. 46 feels ace

I tried to order a Wahoo earlier in the week but my payment never went through which gave me time for a change of heart.

I really like Google maps but I didn't want to use my old Pixel 2XL because the battery wouldn't last a whole day of bike-packing (which is my intention for August) however when you deduct the cost of a Wahoo from the cost of a new Pixel 5, it made more sense to buy the phone So I have.

... and a load of Quadlock accessories.
