Boring stuff....picked up a 12-25 11 speed cassette. I've been riding at Castle Combe once a week and the jumps between gears on my current 11-34.are too big when you're hanging onto a group of faster riders, which in my case is most riders.Wiggle have these on discount at the moment so £65 instead of £88
Don’t know if this counts as it’s old stuff, but always wanted to build a fixie from an old bike.
Love the pure 80s graphic nonsense of the pulsar/quasar era so when this came up on ebay for 30 quid i grabbed it…
And here’s where it’s at as of this morning…
Trying to source replacement graphics atm. Chain line next and possibly a more normal saddle shape (Rolls, Turbo, etc).
Currently arguing with myself about whether to leave the back wheel silver or match it to the front.

What a blast from the past and impeccable timing too V1ince, as I got mine on May 29th 1984. Can't wait to see it finished.Love the pure 80s graphic nonsense of the pulsar/quasar era so when this came up on ebay for 30 quid i grabbed it…

Cheers Negotiating with the decal person now on colour matching.
Also decided, going to do back wheel black too.

Haven't bought it yet but does anyone have any advice or guidance on bartape? Looking to freshen mine up with something comfortable but there are too many choices. This is for my road bike ideally for long rides.
I have Tortec Super Comfort on two of my bikes and expect I'd buy it for another when that needs re-tappinghttps://road.cc/content/review/137334-tortec-super...

Fizik Tempo Microtex Bondcush Soft Bar Tape on mine. Thick, cushioned, nice suede/alcantara type feel (I like riding without gloves), ignores the rain, looks fine after 1500 miles-ish, including one slow low-side crash. Will replace with the same when/if required.

Rolled really, really slowly, and also when you reached the limit of grip they just went - no progressive break away or slide, just like a switch. On a flat, smooth, hard packed, fast downhill trail, yeah they work well…but that isn’t the norm in most places, even at most lift bike parks.
Plus I f***ing hate the cheesy name maxxis and, being something of a contrarian and non conformist, the fact that they appear to be some sort of uniform is odd.

and couldn’t be happier. - like night and day in all respects. Did seven hours of tough blacks and double blacks at a lift park at the weekend and didn’t miss a beat.

That said, assagai seems to work well on the front in UK conditions.
I had two big OTBs last night as the rain had left the clay geasy as hell. One OTB was a very steep slope and my son managed to stop before he hit my bike - assagai on the front. All my bikes run MM front and Hans D rears and he seemed to at least as good front end grip.
Funnily enough the rear on my Son's bike is a hans D which replaced a DHR that split on a vertical roll in.
Hmm interesting.
Its now sat on my desk but tempted to return it. £85 is too pricey to just stick on for testing it out
That said, the DHR DD Max terra is fine, rolls well enough. Out back on my Levo and Patrol its the best tire I've had to date in any condition. No issues with grip in any direction. Prefer it to the Big betty although the BB rolls better I think
Didn't love the Assegai DD Maxgrip and its still on the Levo currently, 6 months in I have found it too square and slightly challenging to tip into a turn on occasions, it has a strange trait where it seems to just slip out when cornering (maybe that's my technique who knows, but it just goes and goes hard) but it did grip well enough over wet roots (like Redlands in Surrey, had no issue riding the bike in wet winter down Psychedelic Warlord for example) and did OK in the UK loam and slop.
I may stick with the Magic Mary, having two bikes I run Maxxis on one and Schwalbe on the other. Chop and change them sometimes.

amongst all the tyre chat I have just (well a month ago) bought a new set of wheels (DCR Standard wheelset) with Specialized S-Works Turbo RapidAir tyres, running tubeless. The combination is absolutely amazing. Every ride has been giving new PRs.
They've replaced a set of Hope/DT-Swiss wheels that I was using with winter-ish tyres, so a massive weight saving of about 1kg. Obviously a fair chunk of that was the tyres but the wheels have gone from 32 spoke front and rear to 24 and 28 so a decent saving in the wheels as well.
