I have Microshift bar endshifters on one of my tourers. Probably better than the Shimano ones on the other tourer. Both work. The Microshift have a nicer feeking click. No big deal. Quality feels/looks as good if not better.

I wouldn't hesitate buying Microshift kit.

Today the deliveryman brought me a cheap 8/9 Speed 700C Alivio hub wheel from Bankrupt Bikes. I like having a spare. My last spare was fitted to my son's bike after he burst a wheel in a crash.

£40 delivered including a spoke key tool which fits 3 sizes and includes a flat and crosshead a screwdriver.

Good to know, getting fitted to the hardtail this weekend and if first impressions are good I think at least another mech will be getting ordered as a spare...

New set of tyre levers! Seem to find it harder these days to get road tyres off the rim without snapping one of the levers.

I'm sticking this in bike bits, because even if it's technically a whole, working bike (well, BSO), I'm not about to put it in "show off your bike" just yet!

It's a (dirty) Giant hybrid from 2000 ish +- 2 or 3 years, and I tend to swap my electric bike kit on to it as (a) my old tourer which currently has it fitted is too road-position focused for a short commute - I'd like the sit up and spin without effort of a hybrid (b) I want that tourer back on Zwift, as my current 1x road bike which works really well on the hills around here, is horrible to use on Zwift! I really notice those gearing jumps.

It's a little small for me really, but hopefully no probs on a 3 mile e-assisted commute.

The brakes work really well, the gears work as well as any twist-shift I've met (ie, sort of, eventually, but do manage the full range both ends), steering is smooth, suspension seat post works(!), tyres need a bit more air (and then replacing).

All for the princely sum of £30 from someone on gumtree who was 20 minutes walk to and 5 minutes ride home away smile
Can't go far wrong! I know I've spent a lot more on bike stuff that's turned out to be useless...

And fresh tyres/tubes for the bike above (38mm Marathons, £15 each at Merlin at the mo... so as much as the bike itself! rofl ).
Also some spokes as 3 have gone on my hub motor rear wheel... I didn't think it felt very well tensioned from new, so I'll have a go at now... thanks to Woosh Bikes for sending them along straight away when I let them know about the failures.

Guess what I'm planning on doing this weekend wink

New dropper, fed up with repairing my KS LEv integra, bought a Rockshox reverb like on my other bike.

£225 reduced from £378!

Ultegra C36 carbon rims I really need to get round to returning.

VEL 50RL carbon rims fitted today along with the centre lock discs & Pirelli GP5000s (fk me that was a fight!)

105 cassette will be going back as the published Giant spec sheet says mine should be 11-28 and but it’s actually 11-30 and I do not want a tougher granny ring.

105 rear derailleur as I broke the barrel adjuster on mine going over the bars this summer. Chain will go on at the same time as the new cassette and I’ll probably procure some new cables since the ones on it are 2.5 years old and there’s probably about 5k miles of shifting on them now.

Another set of DHB shorts for turbo action and new DHB toe covers since my old ones are getting towards knackered.

Edit, also:

Some more bar tape to change the position of the shifters on my ebike and double up the tape.

Photochromatic lensed riding glasses.

Any advice on selling a 30 year old, steel framed, custom built triathlon/TT bike that looks more like 3 years old? Is it just a case of putting in on ebay or are there better options for specialist bike stuff? The right person would absolutely love for its retro-triathlon vibe; but how do you find the right person? I'm lucky enough to be average size, which probably helps when selling a bike.

Cheers.

I fitted a new set of GP5000s last weekend and had the bleeding thumbnails to prove it! Probably the most difficult set of tyres I’ve ever fitted.

You could try timetriallingforum, there maybe someone there into retro TT bikes. Or have a look at some of the specific Facebook selling groups

Yeah, there’s no danger I’m riding anywhere without a couple of tyre levers in the saddle bag after that battle hehe

That being said, inflation was ridiculously easy, very little difference to using my standard track pump to blow up an inner tube.

Topeak Road Morph pump. I already have one but as it's 15 years old I feel it might be tempting fate taking it on my 1 month tour this year.

Also, give retrobike a try. It's another option.

If they are torn, superglue works a treat. I patch from behind using gorilla tape, to hold the tear together then run a line of superglue down the joint.

You can leave the gorilla tape on afterwards to reinforce the repair.

I’ve down this on a number of cycling garments with success.

Adding a volume spacer to shock to tune a bit more progressive feel. Will be interesting to see if I notice much difference.

New SLX rear mech to replace the old XT on my mtb - must be about 6yo so done well, but getting tired.

And keeping my helmet fresh…

…new pads…

The orange ones are original and minging - but stock has been hard to find in the last year or so. New black pads are daisy fresh!
